"What plot of yours have we just touched?" Hel asked warily while she grabbed a chair. She motioned to Garmr to lie down under the table. The front half of him fitted under there, butt and tail however stuck into the room and blocked the way to the door.

Flo shook his head, his eyes on the floor. "None you ever heard about. It was before your time."

"Before her time?" Justin blurted. "She is ancient." To Hel he added, "No offense."

"None taken. I look splendid for my age," Hel assured, then requested, "Talk Dad."

Flo's hands ran through his hair. He still stood, held up by the kitchen cabinet. "I don't even know how to explain this."

The wolf had to move so that Matis could pull out a chair for Flo. But when room was made, Matis sat Flo into the chair and placed some water in front of him. "Start at the beginning."

"I was raised by Mathilda and Vlad," Flo told the glass in his long fingers, after he had nearly downed it at once.

"He didn't mean you have to start with the creation of the world," Hel grumbled. She was boxed in the ears for her interruption by Slepnir, with his nose.

"It's where the story starts, in a way. You see," Flo explained with a dry laugh, "I was never born. I've been created when my father, Guthrum, hit an oak tree. Back then he could turn into a bolt. I am not sure, if he had another body. He must have since he was already friends with Vlad. Anyway, the oak tree split to reveal me. Ever since my father is stuck in his human shape, and stuck with me as his heir."

"But the rumors about his other kids that he made disappear? Vlad' suspicion about Mathilda's pregnancies?" Hel inquired. Matis and Justin didn't know about any rumors, but that they were members of the Great Hunt now and not living their lives was partly due to Vlad' claims of Mathilda's infidelity. He had meant to make an example out of his wife, showing everyone what would happen to those who thought to best him. She had punished him for it. Their children were caught up in the conflict.

Flo waved the objection aside. "Guthrum created these rumors. It had hit him hard that he couldn't wield the power of the lightning bolt anymore. Had his best friend found him out, he would have lost his face in front of him. So, he put on a show of being the greatest philander in the history of earth. In secret, he searched for other ways to garner power."

"That's why he started his media empire," Matis put two and two together.

"Looks like keeping a secret that could destroy you, teaches you some," Flo nodded.

"Does he know that you know?" Justin asked.

"No. It's a nugget of information too precious to waste. The time will come to use it. For now, the fact is my life insurance as well as my life sentence."

"I don't understand," Matis said. For the last days, Flo had acted like a dying man. But here he explained that the only people apparently seeking his life wouldn't kill him.
