Dark

Why was everything so dark?

The last thing I remembered was falling asleep on Katelyn couch, but now I was here. Lost in the dark.

I tried to feel around, but there was nothing. It was as if I was tossed into the void, with nothing to lead or guide me out.

I called out for help, but there was nothing. Not even the sound of my own voice screaming. It was all just darkness, an endless void of darkness.

I wanted to scream, I wanted to cry, I wanted to call out for help with any energy I had. But nothing happened, and nobody came.

Maybe this was punishment for all the mistakes I had made in my life. After all, an oddity like me shouldn't even be alive.

I thought it was over, everything I had worked and dreamed for. But then I saw it, a small flicker of light, something to guide me out.

It was so beautiful I almost started crying. I'm not sure how long I'd been stuck in this darkness, but I was so ready to leave. The light felt like a motherly hug, after a hard day.

"Aphmau", a gently voice called out from the light. "Honey wake up, it's time for school"

My surroundings quickly changed, and I suddenly found myself in the middle of a crowded school hallway. Students were walking through the halls, and talking to each other.

"Hey!", I heard an angry voice say. "Out of our way"

A group of kids knocked into my shoulders, and made me fall to the ground. I felt my bag fall onto the floor, and all my stuff flew out of it.

"Pathetic", the same voice said. "You'd think cause she made of metal she'd at least be able to stay standing"

The group of children who had gathered round started to laugh, and I felt hot tears drip down my face as I gather up all my belongings. I bolted down the hall to the bathroom, and I heard the kids call out to me.

"And don't come back freak"

I ran into the bathroom, and looked at myself in the mirror. The reflection in the mirror looked like me, only a lot older. Her hair was shorter, and she looked tired.

"Don't give up, not yet"

I reached my hand forward to touch the reflection, when I was pulled into the mirror.

I landed in the middle of a house, a soft carpet under my feet. It only took me a second to hear the loud voices coming from the kitchen. Reluctantly I quickly walked toward the noise.

"You're just going to abandon us?!", I heard one voice scream. "Do you have no love for your daughter? Or are you just that selfish!"

"She's a mistake", the other voice yelled back. "She shouldn't even be alive, yet here she is, spending all our money on some dumb surgery"

"I can't believe you would say that", the first voice sputtered. "I guess if you think that way then you'll just have to leave"

The second person looked taken aback. "You can't kick me out of my own house"

"Then me and Aphmau will leave and you can keep all you money, since that's all you seem to care about"

I watched as my mom walked into the other room, gathered a few belongings, carried the tiny bundle that was me, and walked out the door. We soon arrived at a train station, where my mom bought one ticket for Falcon Claw.

She held me tight, as we wait for the train. "Don't worry Aphmau", she whispered to my sleep figure. "I'll never abandon you"

I heard the sound of an approaching train, and my mother gathered up our few items before boarding the train. She continued to hold me tight in her arms, as the train slowly took off down the tracks.
