Chapter 38: An Adventure

Start from the beginning

"Ali, when, when you moved here in seventh grade I, I didn't know what to think." What was he talking about? "We became friends, and then in eigth grade I dragged you to that dance with Andrew and I and we spent the entire night making fun of the music and dancing ridiculously, but then towards the end..."

"We slow danced." I remembered it vividly. It was awkward for both of us, but towards the end of the song we got the hang of it and glided with each other around the dance floor.

"Yeah, we did." He looked down at the bundle of the flowers in his hand and played with the stem of one of them. "That was, that was when I really knew that I liked you." He didn't stop talking long enough for me to say anything, and he kept going. "And then these past couple of months we grew closer and then what happened before we left viribus and..." what was he trying to say? "I guess, what I'm trying to say is that I want to try and add some normalcy into our hectic lives...I know it's simple, but-" He turned to me and held out the flowers, extending them towards me, "Ali, will you be my girlfriend?"

What? Was this, was this really happening? This is literally every girl's dream come true. The things they write about in their diaries, or dream about, and now it was finally happening. I looked up at him, took the flowers from his hand and then wrapped my arms around his neck.

We kissed, and for just a while it was us two, and the nature. Our lips intertwined with each other's, arms encircled about each other, breathing in sync with each other's. I smelled his smell and felt his breath up against mine. After a while we finally pulled away, and niether of us could stop smiling.

"So is that a yes?" He ran his hand through his hair, the other one intertwined with mine.

I gave a chuckle, and assured him that yes, it was a yes. Yes, I will be your girlfriend, yes I will hold your hand, yes I will be there for you, yes yes yes.

He smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me onto his lap. I placed my hands around his neck. His hands moved along my back as we kissed and I ran my fingers through his hair. We kissed, and smiled, and laughed and kissed some more. I felt happy, and I hadn't felt truly happy in a long time.

"Well, sorry to interrupt. If you wanted privacy you should have gotten a room."

I screamed, and nearly fell backwards off of Justin's lap, but he held me there. I wanted to scream even more when I saw who had interrupted us.

"What are you doing here you creep?!!"

It was the man from the gas station. He smelled like beer and was probably still drunk or at least hungover. He still looked creepy, but the fact that he had known where we were scared me. His eyes were yellow and bloodshot, and he was wearing a thick, long coat, despite it being summer.

"Me?" He laughed, his voice gravelly. "Oh I'm just trying to earn some extra cash. Some men came up to me after yous left that gas station and asked if I had seen yas. They gaves me some cash to find you, and Imma fittin to get some more soon as I bring you to em so let's go." He reached his arm out to try and grab mine, but Justin gently nudged me off my lap and stood up in front of him.

"No." He stated.

"No?"

"No." Justin stated again. "You can't take us. What makes you think you can just walk in here and take us without a fight? I won't allow it."

"Yeah, wells yous won't have to." He reached into the inside of his coat and pulled out a regular pistol. He turned it around in his hand a couple of times and I felt my stomach drop. He held it the proper way and turned to point it towards me. "I'mma only here for her."

Justin immediately tensed up as soon as he saw the gun. He positioned himself in front of me and reached backwards for my hand.

"Yeah, move out of the way kid. I got's a gun, or didn't you notice that?"

"I noticed." He responded. I could tell he was shaking and scared, but he did a good job of hiding it. "I just didn't care enough" As he said this I noticed Justin had let go of my hand and was moving his around in front of him. The water in between his fingers was steaming, and I noticed that one hand was controlling water, but the other was lit bright red with the flame of a fire.

He brought his hands up and threw the water and fire at the man at the same time. He dropped his gun to shield his eyes but the burning water scalded his hands and he cried out.

"Let's go!" Justin cried, grabbing my hand and pulling me up off of the bench as we started to run.

We had barely gotten a couple of feet when I nearly fell over from running into Justin who had stopped dead in his tracks. I went to his side to see a man hiding in the bushes, pointing a gun directly at me. Justin had stopped, because he knew that if he didn't that man would have shot me if he kept running.

Hard, cold hands wrapped around my sides and I felt a piece of cold metal pushing against my throat. I immediately tensed up and stopped moving. A hot moist breath made it's way down my neck and I kept myself from shaking. Justin whipped around and I mentally screamed no as another man came up behind Justin and put a knife to his throat.

"Any funny business or fighting back and I will cut her pretty throat right here, and you can watch her blood spill all over your shoes." This was a different man behind me, and he apparently was more of a creep then the other. I felt his hand run the dull edge of the knife down my face before coming back around to my neck. "Such a shame too," he stated. "Such a pretty little thing."

Justin tried not to struggle in his captor's grasp. The edge of the knife was getting dangerously close to piercing his skin. Did you know it's hard to talk when you have a knife held to throat? It's almost too hard too breathe.

"You guys are all idjits." A third man came from somewhere else, holding what looked like another kind of gun. The other man, the creep stood behind him looking ashamed. "It's simple really. You just point," he raised the gun as Justin and I stood helpless in their grasp. "And shoot."

And with a quick motion I heard a soft click before a sharp pain came into my neck, I heard another one, and Justin almost immediately slumped over in the other man's arms. He struggled, but his feet gave out from underneath him. Black spots clouded my vision and I saw the man holding Justin ungracefully throw him to the side where his head made a large noise on a nearby tree root. I winced, and felt myself lifted up and over someone's shoulder. My head pounded, and my vision went completely out as my ankles and wrists were bound together.

Well this sure was a birthday to remember.
