Trying my hardest to convince myself for those words not to mean anything, I reluctantly pushed myself out of the bed to quickly get rid of those words out of my system but the icy air soon enveloped my body, reminding me how empty my life has actually been.
I hurriedly went downstairs pulling my night robe along the way to see if my Uncle has come home from his business trip from Taipei.
“Coffee?”, my Uncle greeted me upon seeing him in the lounge reading his Autocar Magazine.
I nodded at his suggestion and quickly tiptoed myself into the kitchen.
“Have you called your Dad yet?”, Uncle Adrian shouted from the lounge whilst I was climbing up the kitchen counter to get the coffee and sugar pots.
“Not yet Uncle”, I groaned but I let this out of my frustration of me not able to get hold of the pots.
Uncle Adrian soon came in and I saw him chuckling as he moved closer to me. “Sarah gamitin mo yun step-stool”
I groaned again now out of my frustration of how my day is starting. “Stupid Saturday morning”, I muffled to myself clambering down from the counter.
My Uncle then I settled in our conservatory looking over our blue liquid pool sparkling under the warm sun but I was still wrapping myself with my robe.
“Sarah huuuy…”
“Huh?”, I said flatly.
“Have you been listening to me?”, my Uncle said in a sing-song voice, scrunching his brows at me.
I nodded, “Yup”, despite knowing that I have been just fixing my concentration at the silver water dancing in the pool under the yellow sun.
Uncle Adrian cleared his throat and continued, “As I was saying, I talked to your Dad sinabi niya sa akin na you should be practising your skills now. So by next week you should get started sa kitchen sa La Ovelé. Okay?”
I sipped on my French roasted coffee inhaling its aromatic blend to warm myself up, “Okay”.
“Are you okay? May sakit ka ba?”, he asked staring at me worryingly.
“No, I am fine po. Just college stuffs”, then quickly sipped another intake of caffeine.
My uncle just nodded but his face has a worried look written all over it. “Okay… I was just not expecting that. Maybe it was just me, I was hoping you jumping over the place right now kasi you’ll be working sa kitchen ko. You’ve been dreaming of that di ba?”
I just gave him the sincerest smile, as I know it was quite hard for him to work the schedules out for me at La Ovelé. I can tell if I responded back at him explaining things, he would just pester me to blurt out the problems I am trying to mask. So for now, it is best for my Uncle not to know of my surmountable problems.
I then fixated my gaze back again to the water admiring how it can move freely even if it was surrounded by strict-solid concrete cements. The water may seem at times to not move at all but the slightest movement can stir repercussions. A branch soon fell from the tree close to it, pulling it into the pool by gravity. The water then rippled and seemed disturbed, waving and splashing at the sides in protest. But instead of the water getting annoyed at the little trouble, the water just happily moved along with it, carrying the branch back to its surface. The water seemed to enjoy the company; it was just going with the flow on whatever life throws at it.
