“Are you okay gorgeous?”, Adam asked for the millionth time.
“Yup”, I told him popping the p in the end unenthusiastically. “Why shouldn’t I be?”
He slumped his back against the bench in an annoyed manner, spreading his arms nonchalantly. “Nothing”, he shrugged.
I rolled my eyes at him for acting weirdly but he responded by giving a wry smile.
“So what sort of business are you going to try and finish today?”, raking his hair as the gust of wind tried to pick it up.
“Some stuff”, I told him frowning. I guess today should not have been the best day to do this after that spat with Mr Anderson. But my mind kept spinning thinking of what may have happened with Sam. He has not told me about taking any leave of absence for Pete’s sake! I have the right to know such things, don’t I? But why has he not told me about it!
“Are you really okay?”, Adam raised in a concerned voice.
I nodded, “Why do you keep asking me that? Geez, Adam you’re driving me crazy!”
He paused for a moment and sighed, “Nothing”. But his face lightened up, “Yeah, I do have that effect with girls. Driving them crazy”, winking at me suggestively.
I shook my head letting a small laugh. Such a player. I breathed deeply, “Sorry. I just really need to clear some things up. This has been bugging me for the past few days”
“Okay. Well I am not really good on this girly stuff but I could try and listen”, he looked at me intently nodding his head like a lost puppy.
I tried stifling my laugh at the look of his face. Yeah, this must be hard for him. “So why do you even care then?”, I asked him curiously.
“I don’t know”, he sighed. He pinched the nose of his bridge for a moment. “For Gerald?”, he told me in a questioning manner.
“For Gerald?”, I asked him raising an eyebrow. “Are you asking or telling me?”
He scowled at me and crossed his arms, “D*** it Sarah! This is driving me insane. You know, you can be manipulative. I don’t know why.”
“Yeah I guess I’ve got the skills too”, I teasingly said. “So I am driving you insane now huh?”, winking back at him to lighten up the mood.
“Oh yeah you are. Frisky are we?”, Adam grinned wagging his eyebrows.
“What? No!”, I protested.
Adam laughed hard clutching his stomach. I crossed my arms feeling my cheeks heating up. “Your boyfriend will be the luckiest man in the world, you know that?”, Adam said pinching my cheek.
“Stop that!”, I slapped his hand. “You just don’t know”, I told him exasperatedly but it was more out of defeat.
I sat uncomfortably arching my back settling my elbows on my legs. Funny how life works out. I am sat at Manila bay right now talking to the brother of the person who would want me to be the last person he would ever want to see on earth. What more, he does not have the slightest clue why I am acting like this.
