Yeng was pulling my arms dragging me into the lecture room for me to realise that my next lesson is Mediterranean Cuisine. I thought I was going to avoid Mr Anderson but the very thought only occurred to me this morning.

“Yeng”, I sighed. “Can we sit a little further back?”

Yeng eyed me suspiciously but her face had no trace of giving in.

“Please?”, I pleaded pouting at her.

She nodded and dragged her foot behind me to follow me up behind the last occupied rows. The idea was stupid I must say that, but it would be better if I stayed further away from him to avoid any eye contact. Though with how small the class is, the chances are against me.

“Okay ka lang?”, Yeng asked me with a worried face.

I nodded and was inwardly mad at myself for lying at Yeng again. Last night, after that Gerald or I mean Mr Anderson left, Yeng and Ian phoned me up to follow up our rendezvous. I lied to them saying that my Uncle was at home and had a business meeting going on. When it turned out I was stupidly crying myself out about stupid things.

“You know you can talk to me Sarah”, she told me in her earnest voice.

I smiled at her and gave her a quick hug. “You are really a good friend Yeng”, I responded. “Maybe even the best.”

Yeng smiled back at me and pulled her notebook out of her bag. I looked at her and mentally scolded myself for not sharing all the things that happened to me for the past few days. I definitely need to tell her all of this. She will understand and will be able to help me.

I played with my watch and at the stroke of the hand at ten, Mr Anderson graced in. He looked dishevelled. His shirt was nowhere near ironed and he looked rather sleep-deprived. I rolled my eyes and thought that he might have pulled out an all nighter with one of his girls. I mentally shrugged at the very idea. I don’t care who he hangs out with, don’t I?

“Good morning”, he chirped in the class with his fake upbeat voice.

“Good morning”, everyone said with some of the girls giggling. Whatever.

Mr Anderson cleared his voice and snapped his head at me. I lowered my head in reflex and felt Yeng nudging me on the sides.

         “What?”

         “Whatever?”, Yeng whispered to me.

The whole class I guess heard me mumble but I crossed my arms on the table to listen intently to the teacher. I will try.

“Right our lesson…”, Mr Anderson trailed but my mind quickly blocked everything he was saying. Yeng kept nudging me once in a while reeling me back into the topic.

Half way through the lesson, I started to try harder and listen to Mr Anderson who was talking about some project.

         “Project?”, I asked Yeng.
