The bed’s headboard soon met my back with my left hand drawing circles on my temple. I quickly scanned the room to remember the picture frame sat on the table. I scooted my body slowly to the other side of the bed and reached for the picture frame.

I laughed at what I saw. It was Gerald and I winning the Mr and Mrs Valentines back in Year 6! I remembered I was crying so hard on that day because one of the girls was jealous and tried to steal my tiara! We got into a catfight and managed to break my crown in the process. I soon burst in tears and Gerald was quite worried back then. He did not know what to do, as his usual hugs did not stopped my cries! I wept really hard, crying my heart out not having the magic that his hug usually gives to me. So he decided to be a good boy, take his crown off his head and just place it on mine.

“Gerald!”, I shouted as he came in with my breakfast and I was clutching the picture frame trying to show it to him.

He smiled faintly and quickly put my breakfast on the table.

“Bakit?”, I asked him wondering about his sad face.

“Nothing.” He said smiling but in his eyes I can see sadness. “May naalala lang ako…”

I was torn whether to ask him what his problem was. My mind struggled, debating to ask Gerald. I have not talked to him for more than five years but I decided to ask him. He is still my friend right?

“Tell me… I am still your friend naman right?”

He grinned and nodded. “Oo naman”, and his face lightened up “I was only thinking of that picture.” He chuckled, “You stole my crown!”.

“W-what? Kinuha ko?”, I jibed at him, “It was you who put it on here!”, I patted my head with my frame still in my hand.

“But if I did not do that, we could have drowned!”

I scrunched my eyebrows out of annoyance but even if I was moody he just knows how to tease me right. I then lifted my arm and found myself throwing him gently the picture frame. He tried to catch it but was not able to. The frame soon bounced off the bed and found its way on the floor. Sound of breaking glass numbed me on the spot, guilty of what I have done. The picture frame soon shattered on the floor.

“Sorry Gerald... sorry”, I apologised to him. I was not intently or wishing for that to happen!

Gerald froze for a moment upon seeing the shattered glasses scattered on the floor. He emotionlessly tried to pick the broken shards of glass up.

“F***”, he hissed as one of the glass found itself piercing into his finger.

I stood up not minding the woozes I am getting from my little headaches and quickly grabbed his hand to look at it.

         “Gerald let me lo-”

“Have you not hurt me enough!”, he quickly yanked his hand away from me and bitterly walked out of the room.

I was dumbfounded and shocked at his expression. I gently massaged my head as my little headaches soon rushed in, showing up because of me standing up quickly. Have you not hurt me enough rang back and forth in my head but it did not make any sense at all!

“What does he mean by that?”, I asked myself still thinking of why Gerald had acted like that.

It should be me going at him like that for ignoring me for four years at Burdon! For leaving me like a dead person in the water. But I stopped myself getting ahead of things.
