“Yup”, she nodded. “Remember your library research?”
Oh that. I slapped my hands gently onto my face. Now I remember why I was at University yesterday.
I was going to reason out with Yeng how I was not able to finish it when a knock at the door interrupted me from blurting out. I flashed a smile to Yeng who was looking at me oddly. I guess today’s my lucky day. Mr Anderson might be needed somewhere else.
“Just see”, I told Yeng confidently and started packing up my things.
She shook her head and whispered, “This is so not you Sarah”.
I raised my eyebrow at her to be cut off by Mr Anderson’s voice.
“Listen class. I’d like you to meet someone.”
I nudged Yeng’s side. “Told you”. So Mr Anderson’s presence was not neede somewhere else but we are going to meet someone. A new student meant more introductions to class and less time for the teaching itself.
Yeng laughed at me and started packing her things up catching my drift. “Ano ka psychic?”
I nodded and quickly stole glances at the door only to be greeted by a new student. I grinned for getting off the hook up with the research. The new student was about my age or younger, wearing a white long-sleeves top opening up at top exposing her cleavage and a floreat mini-skirt to show off her slender legs. Her fashion sense was… how do I put it nicely… provocative.
The boys roared at the new student, earning wolf-whistles mostly from Chris. I laughed at how rabid guys can be. Typical.
Mr Anderson cleared his throat to squelch the chitchats. “Guys, I would like you to meet Miss Yap. Your teaching assistant.”
“A teaching assistant?”, I shrieked in surprise.
Yeng looked at me oddly and I looked back at her suspiciously as the room mostly boys erupted and started raising their hands to interrogate Miss Yap.
“May problema ba?”, I asked Yeng.
She grinned back at me and I scrunched up my eyebrows at her.
“Wala naman”, Yeng said with sparkles in her eyes.
I rolled my eyes at her and shifted my gaze back to the teachers who were happily settled by the table having a little talk. I focused all my senses to make out what the two were on about but it would not take long to realise what the two teachers are doing. The slaps… the giggles… definitely flirting.
I looked at Yeng who was trying smiling stupidly. I raised my eyebrow at her to ask her what she was doing about but she quickly responded to me by waving off her hands.
The class continued unfortunately. Miss Yap walked around the class to try and help us on our projects. I did not ask for help but instead I reluctantly pulled out my paper and pen back onto my desk. There were ten more minutes left to spare so I used the remaining time to quickly jot down the set research that I mistakenly forgot. The guys in the class tried their best to catch Miss Yap’s attention, asking her to help them out on their “problems”. I shook my head at fascination. Boys will be boys. No brainer.
Mr Anderson signalled the end of the class on his microphone and asked us to pass down our drafts for him to check them overnight. Another lesson with him tomorrow I mentally shrugged. This is going to be a long semester.
