Among The Fallen: Phan

Phil was stood a couple of metres away. His hands were shaking and he looked horrified. The roles were switched. I shake my head and smile sadly, looking back down. Maybe he was here to end his life too.

Phil: What are you doing? Get down from there!

A sob escapes my lips and I remove one hand from the railing to wipe my tears from my face. Everything had gone wrong. I met someone I really like and then they left. Rebecca came back and now wants custody over Christine. What did I really have left?

Phil: Don't Dan! Just think about this!

Dan: I-I wasn't going t-to-

I laugh at myself with tears still flowing freely. Wasn't I going to? I never thought about it until I got here. Now everything seemed so hopeless. I didn't know how the outcome was going to turn out, but knowing the crap that has happened this week, it's not going to be good.

Phil: We can talk about this Dan, please.

Dan: Why are you here?

Phil: I was taking a walk. I was going to find you so we could talk. I just didn't expect you to be here.

Dan: *shakes head* Go away.

Phil: No. Please don't do this!

His words were falling on deaf ears. I had to get him to leave. I didn't know what I was going to do. He was lying anyway, he wasn't going to find me. He left with no intent on coming back.

Phil: Dan talk to me. Please.

Dan: I-I didn't come here t-to jump off...

Phil: So why exactly are you up the there?! Get down!

Dan: *cries* I don't know what to do. Everything is messed up. M-Maybe it's better if I-I did.

Phil: You're so wrong. What about your daughter?

Dan: She's going to get taken away from me. Her mother came back again. She's trying to get custody. Everything is worthless.

I hadn't realised he was right behind me. If I had, I might've jumped off first. I felt arms go under mine and wrap around my chest. I pushed myself forwards to get him off me.

Phil: Stop it! You're going to fall!

Dan: Maybe that's the point now leave me alone!

Phil cries as I struggle to get away from him.
