"Wrong door." He shot a smile and just walked past me. I opened the door and found Morgan fixing her hair in the bathroom. She didn't look the least bit bothered, checking herself out before turning to me and smiling.
"What were you guys talking about?" I asked and Morgan just smiled.
"Nothing." She said and took my arm and we walked back to our table. When I sat down, my eyes were still fixated on Morgan, who had the biggest smile on her face when she began to talk to Alice and my father. I felt my phone buzz, I looked down and it was a text from Henry.
What happened?
I looked up from my phone, at him, and my face tried its best to show what I was feeling. I had hoped that he would get it. I tucked my phone away and tried my best to put a great front. Wesley started talking to me, and as interesting as the conversation is. I couldn't stop thinking about Morgan.
When dinner was over, it was getting pretty late, but the adults wanted to walk back to the apartment. The night was cold, and it was beautiful, and so we had begun our walk. Everyone was talking with someone. Colin and Tom were in a conversation. Alice, Henry and my father were in their own world. Ahead of me was Angel and Morgan having their own conversation as well. I was with Wesley, who kept convincing me that I needed to give romance films a shot. It wasn't really my cup of tea.
"So you're telling me you hate romantic films? Even romantic comedies?" He asked and I shook my head. He looked baffled at the idea. But I really wasn't into it. I found myself sleeping at half of them. I would prefer a documentary instead.
My eyes had once again found themselves looking at Morgan. Earlier at the restaurant she had looked completely fine. I didn't know what I'll stop by tonight had meant, but it for sure wasn't any good if Colin was involved. And yet, I had expected her to feel uneasy but she didn't seem even the slightest bit bothered. She looked okay, a huge smile on her face. Either she was an amazing actress or I was overreacting.
"Alex, are you listening?" Wesley tapped my shoulder and my attention immediately went back to him. He just gave me a smile.
"Anyway, what I was saying was, when we go back to England maybe we could watch a romantic comedy just so I can change your perspective on it." He said and I squinted my eyes as a reply. Did Wesley just ask me out?
"We can bring Henry, Angel and Morgan along." He quipped, probably realized what he had just said sounded like he had asked me out. If he did, I wouldn't even know. I'm a bit dense on these kinds of things, and I was never really good at reading tells on whether a guy was into me or not. It just didn't seem all that important to me. I had too much to think about.
When we all got back home I just felt so exhausted. All I could think about was the bed, and just the idea of lying down and not being on my feet was amazing. I told my father goodnight and went straight to my room. As I was about to close my door I see Morgan walk past my door, unaware that it was even open. I poked my head out and found her heading downstairs in a robe.
I couldn't decide if I should follow her or not. I was just too exhausted, but once again the whole I'll stop by tonight was in my head, pestering me continuously. I sighed and made my way downstairs. Everyone was already in their rooms, the living area was completely empty and quiet. The only lights left were coming from the Christmas tree and from the outside. I found myself slowly walking towards the room Colin was staying in.
The door was closed, but you could still hear mumbling, from people talking inside. I crouched on the floor, trying to get my ear near the small gap under the door. Maybe listening from below would be enough to understand what was being discussed inside.
