"Lucas Kyle James and Fallon Alexa Clearse please report to the main office." I woke up to that wonderful message. I rubbed my eyes groggily as my heart rate steadily increased. Did they find out about the sneakout the other day? What about when I punched Ms. Foxe in the face...no wait, that was in a dream.
Will you calm down?! Jesus Christ it's like I'm having a heart attack!
Why the hell are you having a heart attack, I'M the one freaking out here?!
Don't you ever wonder why I was able to get into your head that first time you saw me since I left? You certainly weren't letting...me...in...that just sounds wrong so ignore it. I was assigned your protector for a reason. We're connected. I experience everything you do if I'm not fighting it. It was easier before I changed your necklace from a muffling enchantment to a booster.
Uhhh....
Go to the main office, Queen.
You know that nickname is a little awkward.
Sorry, Queen Sorceress. Better?
I guess... Thanks Sir Alex.
Cereal addicts? What are you talking about, babe?
I groaned and put up my mental barriers again. I understand why people who hear voices in their head are put into white rooms, if they aren't even really insane, after a while it will make them go crazy.
"Get up and let's go." Lucas growled. I glanced over at him and noticed he was dressed and his hair was damp from a shower. I glared and got up, stomping after him out the door in my flannel pajama pants and white tank top. My feet were freezing on the cold school flooring but I bit back my complaints, already moody from the main office scare, the exasperating voices in my head, and my usual morning grumpiness.
Suddenly I bumped into Lucas' back. My glare at the ground broke and I looked at him blankly, my mind wiped from the shock. He turned and started to smile; I scowled deeply. He looked ahead again.
"We're here." He said hardly before walking in. I glared at his uniformed backside. Fudging jerk.
"Ah, you two again. Follow me please." The woman who had talked to us on the first day said with a smile, beckoning for us to follow her in a back room. I shivered and wished for a jacket...like the one tied around Lucas's waist. I looked so unprepared. Thinking to myself and staring at the floor I failed to notice Lucas had turned around and was standing in my way.
I bumped into his chest and jumped back in surprise.
"You really have to start paying attention. Now stay still.
Fallon, defy him! Alexander suddenly screamed in my head. Lucas reached out to touch me but I jerked away, glaring. Lucas narrowed his eyes and gripped my shoulders before I could move again.
Slowly, Lucas raised one hand and when I didn't move he let go and started to fix my hair, tucking strands behind my ears and patting down the stray hairs flying around in the air.
After that he rubbed his thumb along the side of my face and I blushed, knowing he was scraping away the dried drool that had escaped my mouth last night. His thumb brushed the tip of my lip and I twitched slightly, running my tongue over my lips to shake the odd sensation.
Lucas's hand shook as he took a step back, surveying my appearance. I fidgeted under his gaze and he finally passed over his jacket, pulling me after the woman into a random room.
