Stiles

Things were getting a little messy. . . well, more than that, they were getting confusing. Stiles was letting things happen he knew he shouldn't. He was being too trusting, and too secretive all at once. It had been almost seven months since he had physically seen Derek. However, there were frequent text messages. He sometimes answered them, and other times he ignored them. Derek was sending mixed signals. Sometimes Derek called and talked about his day while Stiles just listened, but they never talked about what Stiles really wanted to talk about.

While all of this was happening with Derek, there was also the matter of how he was keeping this from Theo. A lot had happened since that first kiss with Theo. At first, they were only friends. Theo asked him out every week in a new way, until eventually, Stiles gave in. That was two months ago when Stiles called to tell Derek was was moving on. At that point, he had no idea this thing with Derek was going to happen and complicate things.

Stiles was at school, sitting next to Lydia in English when his phone buzzed. He hadn't been paying attention, so it made him jump a little. Lydia gave him a strange look, but said nothing. Stiles subtly pulled his phone out of his pocket and looked at it under the desk. Derek's name was lighting up his screen.

Hey, just wanted to check in. How's school going?

Stiles caught himself smiling, knowing Derek was thinking about him. He quickly realized he was grinning like an idiot, so he bit his cheek to keep himself from doing so. Lydia suddenly elbowed him, so he looked at her, the realized she could see his phone screen. 'Derek?' she mouthed, her face looking a bit angry.

Stiles smiled guiltily and turned off his phone, choosing not to reply at the moment. 'talk later' Stiles mouthed back. Lydia glared at him and crossed her arms, looking away. Stiles hadn't told her, or anyone for that matter, about texting Derek, so he could see why she was angry. Being one of Stiles best friends and being kept out of this, Stiles knew it was frustrating. He just couldn't tell her, or anyone else, because he wasn't sure how to explain it.

The bell rang to dismiss class and Stiles scrambled out of his seat to keep up with Lydia. "Let me try to explain," he begged, latching onto her wrist to keep her from walking away. She stopped, turning to face him in the crowded hallway. "Come here," he sighed, dragging her to an empty classroom. He made sure the teacher was gone for lunch before he began to explain. "Okay, yes, Derek texted me."

"How long has this been going on?" Lydia asked accusingly, her hand on her hip. This was difficult, because he knew she was very fond of his and Theo's relationship. When Derek cut everyone off, Lydia included, she started to like Theo a lot more, and even gave the two of them a push. "Does Theo know?" Stiles shook his head, ignoring the buzzing phone in his pocket. Lydia scoffed. "Is that Derek calling you?"

"It's been two months, and no, Theo doesn't know. I'd like to keep it that way," Stiles said, taking his phone out of his pocket to silence it. He hit ignore before he realized that it was Theo calling, and not Derek. "Damn it," he grumbled, sending Theo a text that he was in the middle of something.

"Stiles," Lydia yelled, grabbing his shoulders so he would have to look at her. "You can't be talking to Derek if you're with Theo. Reason number one: Derek cheated on you! Reason number two: Derek ignored you for five months. Not a single word from him."
