Stiles

He had never been so worried about another person in his life, besides his mom so many years ago. When Derek called him crying, Stiles' brain immediately assumed the worst. He was sitting on Lydia's bed when his phone rang, and Lydia was ranting to him about staying away from Theo. She asked about a million questions after Stiles hung up the phone, but Derek told him not to mention it to anyone, so he told her nothing. She was angry, but Stiles didn't care. He rushed out as fast as he could. When he saw Derek sitting on that bench, head in his hands, he ran to him. As soon as he was close enough, he wrapped his arms around Derek's shoulders and held him tight.

He convinced Derek to go back inside eventually. He had to really try, almost drag him even. But he got him to his feet and wrapped an arm around his waist to support him. He seemed tired and emotionally beaten. Stiles walked him to the waiting room where the others were sitting. Talia wasn't there, but his sisters were. "Hey," Laura mumbled, giving him a small smile.

"Hey guys," Stiles replied, letting go of his grip on Derek. "Any news?" He sat in the chair next to Cora and Derek sat on the floor in front of him, leaning his head back between Stiles's legs.

"Nothing yet," Laura sighed, laying her head on Cora's shoulder. "He's been in there for almost two hours. We're all getting restless."

"I wish there was more we could do," Derek mumbled. Stiles ran his fingers through Derek's hair a few times to comfort him, then leaned down to kiss the top of his head, wrapping his arms across Derek's chest.

"Since there's not much we can do, let's talk about when you two are officially getting back together," Cora chimed in, watching them with a smirk. Stiles was afraid this topic would come up and now was especially not the time to talk about it. "You practically already are, right?"

"It's complicated," Stiles admitted, sitting up straight again. He resumed running his fingers through Derek's hair. They may not have been a couple, but Stiles cared about him more than anything.

"When things go back to normal, maybe," Derek added, resting his head against Stiles' knee. Stiles worried that things may never go back to normal. And what would that mean for their relationship? "But I don't really feel like talking about our personal life in front of you two girls who like to gossip."

"I'm hurt," Laura mumbled, rolling her eyes. "But hey, Cora's right. You guys are good together. And-- we miss you, Stiles." It was a genuine look on her face and it made Stiles' heart hurt, because he missed them too. He missed spending time with the Hale family, knowing they accepted him and loved him.

"Guys, relax," Derek said, his voice firm. "Stiles and I are just working things out. I promise he's not going anywhere." Derek's words seemed truthful, so Stiles couldn't help but smile. Derek promised, and he never broke a promise.

It was silent after that and Stiles was not about to say something. They were all anxiously awaiting the news from the doctor and he didn't want to say the wrong thing. It was Talia that broke the silence by entering the waiting room with a bag of food and a drink carrier. She smiled fondly at the sight of Stiles and Derek. "Stiles, I'm glad  you could make it."

"You guys are my family, of course I'm here," Stiles replied, returning her smile. He would have gotten up to hug her, but Derek was sort of in the way.
