I was in the kitchen, making dinner. My father was in his room as usual, and Akira was playing in her room. Kanan was laying on the ground in the corner, every time I looked at him he seemed to be pondering over something.
I made up three plates and began to take them to the table. I set two of them in front of the chairs. "Could you grab Akira Kane?" I asked as I went back for silverware. He got up and gave me a bit of a glare then snorted at me. He sharply turned away and wattled up the stairs.
I ignored it and went up to my father's room. I softly nocked, "dad? Dinners ready, do you want to eat with us?" I asked leaning on the door. I heard large and slow footsteps walking so I stepped away from the door.
When he came out he hung his head low. His eyes were bleak and empty. He walked over to the table and grabbed his plate. Then walked past me back into his room, slowly closing the door behind him.
I felt like crying, but I pushed it down. I turned around and went to the table.
"Y/n!" I heard. I turned my head to see Akira on Kanan walking down the stairs. "You were so awesome today! Can I race next time?" She cheerfully asked me.
"N-no Akira not now," I answered blankly.
She dropped her smile a bit and got off Kanan. She trotted over her chair and climbed up while I grabbed a fish net. I walked over to our barrel of fish and got some out for Kanan. He walked over and I gave him the net. He held it in his mouth. He gestured over to Akira. I ignored it and grabbed my plate. I began out the door when I heard.
"Y/n? Could you eat with me tonight?" Akira asked.
I stopped.
"No Akira, I have work to do when I'm done," I responded.
Akira lost her smile and began eating quietly. Kanan and I walked out the door with our heads hung low. I couldn't I just couldn't, every time I even look at her, I just. She'll be fine. I just, want to, figure myself out! Ya! I can't help her If I can't help myself right?
As I got consumed by my thoughts Kanan stopped and stared at the ground. He squeezed his eyes shut before putting his head up and growling at me. I snap out of thought and question what he was doing. He pointed to the door with his head, throwing the net around a bit. He snorted sternly.
I stuttered, knowing what he wanted, "Kanan, N-no."
He looked down to turn his rage somewhere that wasn't me. He simply glared at me before turning around and heading back into the house. He pushed the door open with his head. I leaned over to see him sit next to the table. Akira seemed confused for a second before he cooed and put his fish on the table. Her face lit up, and I turned away.
I was practicing my archery by the barn, shooting at targets I made a while back. I had just restocked my supply of arrows. Normal, heavy, flint and grappling. Hitting the trees and things helped me vent a bit.
I loosed an arrow and hit a tree square in its branch. A few surrounding sheep flinched. Ugh, Kanan knows I hate being alone, so why'd he, ugh! I grabbed a flint arrow and tried to spark it on a steel edge on my leg strap. I missed, but still pulled back and loosed it. I missed sending it flying beyond my sight.
"Kanan! Get back here!" I heard Akira giggle.
I turned around to see them playing in the yard. Akira was fumbling over herself chasing him around. She grabbed his neck so he stood up on his back legs. He fell on his back and folded his tail under him. He grabbed her in his claws and tossed her up and down. She laughed the whole time.
