Passing The Torch

It was a crisp morning and most the clouds had fled from the sky. Those that were left glowed a brilliant orange contrasted against the light blue sky. The sun was binging to peek over the horizon setting the ocean on fire with a luminous orange glow.

The wind was set West, helping a few stray dragons across the barren sea laid before them. The Rumblehorn with Stoick on top of it was leading the way, but only a few wing beats behind was the Nightfury with Hiccup in tow. Hiccup seemed distraught, confused, worried and angry all at once.

His friends were in the middle of the pack, Astrid wanting to keep as much room between her and Snotlout as possible. His flirtatious manner had made itself more prevalent in the past few years. She positioned herself on the far right of the flock while keeping Snotlout on the left. Even though she had to do some ring around the flock to keep the distance. Thankfully due to the circumstances, Snotlout was being a bit more serious. The rest of them would merely laugh, but Ruffnut would only be making herself a hypocrite. Strangely enough, Fishlegs has actually been trying to woo her. Thankfully more a genuine way though, just though some small talk.

Gobber was bringing up the rear, but not to his command, he couldn't get Grump to go any faster. At this point, he seemed like he was sleep flying.

Hiccup began to blankly stare at the sea, before grinding his teeth and squinting his eyes.

I tighten my grip on Toothless's neck strap. My fears growing bolder. This can't be happening. Y/n is Thor knows where, alone, far from anyone who would help. Agh! Alone! She's alone! She can barely stand to be by herself on Berk, I got to find her! I gotta bring her home, and my heart won't stop worrying until I do.

I felt Toothless's growl vibrate beneath me. I came out of thought to see his vengeful eyes. He kept them forward fixated on the approaching island. I guess I didn't really consider how he felt about losing Kanan. They were like brothers in a way, Toothless being the older one by quite a bit. 15 years if I'm right. Even though they both had each other back, Toothless was clearly more protective of him.

Toothless roared as we crept up on the island. I pulled ahead of my dad clearing my thoughts then said, "This is it, stay sharp they might still be here."

I looked back to make sure everyone got the message. Most of them nodded, aside from the Twins and my dad, who just subtly smiled at me. I turn back to the island a bit confused, but regardless, Toothless roared again and dove towards the trees.

Toothless spun and flipped between trees, leaving a rush of wind behind that disturbed grounded plants, shaking them violently. His wings became cramped the deeper they went, eventually forcing him to land. He ran as fast as he flew until they stopped at a massive dark tree, towering above the rest.

"This is it, this was where we were" I painted turning him around.

Everyone slowed to a stop behind, taking a second to be in awe of the tree. Skullcrusher lowered his head down to the ground, sniffing the fauna for Y/n. His eyes narrowed with disgust of smells unfamiliar to him. I briefly scanned the area scowling making sure no one was left behind.

Toothless walked up to the base of the tree and lowered his head to sniff. His face quickly scrunching up, almost having the same reaction as Skullcrusher. A hint of light from the dancing leaves brushed my eyes. I looked up using my hand to block the light and watched the wind gently move the leaves.
