Ruby and Weiss were sitting in the dorm, each quietly working on homework while Blake read a book in her bed. The girl in red was quickly moving from one paper to the next, her stack being at least three times the size of Weiss' homework load.
Seemingly out of nowhere, the door was blown open by Yang, her eyes red and full of tears.
"What is this?!" She cried, holding up the letter from Ozpin.
Ruby got up quickly to reach for the paper, her sister holding her back while turning to read it out loud.
"Miss Ruby Rose." The blonde started. "I regret that you have decided to rush your time at Beacon, but I respect it all the same. By your request, I have drafted a slightly modified exam to reflect your ability and the potential for you to grow." She stopped for a moment to breath and calm down. "Once you feel that you are plenty prepared, please come to my office and we will set a time. Professor Ozpin, Headmaster of Beacon Academy."
"It's not what you think!"
"Then explained what it is!!!" Yang growled back. She quickly shifted from furious to sad, broken and lost. "What is this..?"
The leader of Team RWBY hesitated, unable to find the words to tell them all. "I-"
"Ruby..?" Weiss whispers out.
She turned and looked at her girlfriend, her partner. "I... I-I'm sorry. I can't stay here anymore."
"What are you talking about!?" Yang demanded. "You can't stay with your friends anymore? Your family?! Your girlfriend?!"
"Yang." Blake whispered. "Please calm down."
"No! I need to understand why my sister is leaving me!" She snapped. "I've had to deal with people leaving my whole life, but you've always been there, Ruby! Why now?!"
"Because it hurts too much!!!" The girl in red finally screamed. "Because every moment I'm here is a reminder of my overbearing sister always on my ass! A reminder of my friends that always seem to need something or have more drama to deal with! Every moment is a reminder that the girl I love will never see me as enough and I'll always be a failure!!"
The room was silent as everyone took in the outburst. Not a word was spoken while everyone waited for understanding to come through. But it didn't.
"So yeah." Ruby muttered, picking up her papers and going towards the door. "I'm leaving. I'm gonna be a Huntress."
And then she was gone, leaving her team in shock and horror at all they had missed. But especially leaving Weiss with an empty and cold feeling, an icy wall covering her feelings from the world.
"Fine." She said simply, as if there wasn't a problem at all. "If she wants to go, let her."
"Weiss, please..." Blake started, unsure of what to say to calm the situation.
The ivory haired girl looked over at her friend, eyes blank of anything. She seemed too look right through.
"What, Blake? What exactly do you need?"
The Dorm Rooftop
"I didn't want them to know this way..." Ruby muttered under her breath. "But of course Yang has to go through by mail, so..."
"Don't blame your sister for all of this." The woman in white pleaded. "She loves you so much~"
"I'm ignoring you!" Team RWBY's leader snapped. "I don't talk to weird visions of fake people!"
"You're talking to me right now."
"..."
"..."
"Shut up..."
Neither Ruby nor the woman spoke a word. There wasn't anything left to say or any thought left unspoken. This was where Team RWBY started to fall apart.
