Chapter Thirty-Three

Start from the beginning

I grinned, "Well I got you to sit on me," ohmigod, kill me. Why did I say that? That's so dumb!

He chuckled, "Yea, it did," without warning he hugged me, releasing my hands. I rested my head on the pillow beneath me, as he rested his head over my heart, which pounded like crazy with him so near, "I love you," he whispered.

"I love you," I ran a hand through his hair, "You said my name when you were asleep."

"I did?" he kissed the exposed skin at my chest, right above my heart.

"Yea," my head was getting foggy, because with him this close and kissing me, I couldn't think straight.

He looked up at me, his smile vibrant, "What else did I say?"

My eyebrows furrowed, as I tried to think clearly, before I gave up, "I can't think clearly, Colt, tone it down."

He let out another chuckle before getting off of me and deciding to lay next to me, "I think there's some stuff I need to tell you, Ali."

"Yea, there is," I agreed, looking over at him, his eyes were on the ceiling though, unable to meet mine.

"I don't know where to start, or even what to say," he ran a hand down his face.

"Start from what you've already told me, how you know the people that kidnapped me. How exactly do you know them?" I asked, hoping he'd answer my question.

"I'm in a gang, Ali," he murmured, "I joined when I was younger, stupider. I wasn't thinking and I just wanted a way to take my anger out. Not to mention some people who had my back."

"You're in a gang?" my voice raised an octave.

"Sadly, I am, and I'm having trouble getting out of it without them hurting you. They threaten to harm you if I quit," he grasped my hand, "They kidnapped you to scare me, and to show me what they were capable of."

"So, whos the leader? Tell the police," I suggested.

"It's not that easy, Princess," he sighed, squeezing my hand, "If it was, I'd already be out."

"So what're you going to do?" I questioned, gauging his reaction, "You have to get out, Colten."

"I know," he rolled over to face me, "Believe me, when I find a way, you'll know."

"Okay, so what else do you need to tell me?" I kept my eyes on the ceiling, avoiding his gaze.

He let out a deep sigh, "I sell drugs, but I've never used, I swear, Ali."

"Does your Gram know?" I finally turned to face him, our noses inches apart.

"Yea, I told her everything," he gently caressed my face, "I didn't tell you because it was better if you didn't know."

"What about when I get my day in court, Colt? What if they ask about you being connected to anything? I can't lie on the stands," I closed my eyes, trying to figure everything out.

"You tell them the truth, I'll understand," he insisted.

"I can't tell them the truth about you, they'll think you're responsible," I felt a couple traitor tears roll down my face, "I'll lie if that's what it takes to keep you beside me."

"Don't lie, if they figure it out, then we're screwed and you'll become unreliable," he wrapped his arms around me, bringing me closer to him, "I won't blame you."

"I can't lose you, I don't care how desperate that sounds, I just can't."

He sighed, "I don't deserve you."

"Shut up, Colt, you're so not going there," I kissed him, "Come on, let's go eat some eggs with your Gram."

He nodded, getting up from the bed, thus bringing me with him, "We'll talk more later? About this?"

"Definitely, no way are you going to be hiding anything from me anymore, I can handle what I'm dealt," I told him bravely.

He wrapped an arm around my waist and began to lead me towards the stairs, "I'll try and tell you everything, but that takes time."

"I know," I sighed, "Let's just get through one day at a time, alright?"

"Alright," he smiled and kissed my temple as we descended the stairs.

Gram had already set the table and was sipping her coffee and reading the newspaper, "Bout time you guys made it down," she teased.

Colten laughed, while I dished up a plate of eggs and some bacon. Colten was right behind me, dishing up three times the amount of food that I did. We took our seats at the table and Gram closed the newspaper and set it aside.

"So what time do you guys plan on leaving?" she asked, raising her fork to eat some eggs.

"We really haven't decided," Colt glanced at me, "But we can leave whenever."

"It doesn't matter to me, I don't think I have anything happening today," I shrugged. Then my phone rang, making me jump. I ignored it, only because we were at the table.

"Aren't you going to get that?" Colt asked.

"It can wait," I smiled, eating some bacon.

"Are you sure? What if it's Chloe? Or your mum?" he questioned.

"They can wait until I'm done eating," I insisted, "It's impolite to be on your phone at the table."

"I think you should answer it," Colt told us.

"Colt, stop, she's fine," Gram insisted, "Ali's right, it's impolite to use phones at the table."

Colt sighed, shaking his head, "All I'm saying is, it could be important."

"Whatever it is, it can wait," I ate some of my eggs, "It's probably my mum, Chloe wouldn't be up at this time anyway."

After breakfast and after we'd helped clean the table, I checked my phone. Just as I'd guessed, it was from my mum.

'Detective Rose called, your trial date has been set for next week. She also wants you to come home and talk to a lawyer,' texted my mum.

"So who was it," Colt asked, as he washed his plate.

"It was my mum, Detective Rose called," I stared at my screen in disbelief.

"What'd she have to say?" Colt dryed off his hands and came over to hug me, I handed him my phone.

"You can read it," I buried my face in his shirt.

"Isn't this a good thing? You get your day in court, Ali," he mumbled, comfortingly rubbing my back.

"Yea, I guess," I hugged him tighter, "Its just, I'm really nervous to go to court. Will you be there? Then if I screw up or something we can laugh about it later or something."

"You won't screw up, Ali, but I'll definitely be there."

"Thanks."

"I suppose we should get going, huh?" he lifted my chin.

"Yea, I guess," I met his eyes before glancing away, at his Gram, who sat patiently at the table, reading what was left of the newspaper.

With that we said our goodbyes to Gram, and piled into Colt's truck.
