At any rate, she was soon ready to go.
As she sat studying her comments, she heard a commotion in the cubicle next door and realized Alex had barged in, demanding to be styled.
Jimin tossed out a few suggestions and Alex sat back smirking and making petty comments for Dae to overhear.
Little did she know that her actions were helping Dae grow harder and more focused. She was ready for this.
Her confidence faltered when she saw Jin.
They had left his conservative suit, but had gelled and styled his hair away from his forehead and he stood there owning the room, more than holding his own with Jimin.
They were in a deep discussion, not an argument, but it was clear that Jin’s opinion was set.
Finally, Jimin shrugged and walked over to Alex and said, "Alex, slight change of plans.”
Her eyes narrowed and he spoke again before she took the chance.
“We have reserved a special seat for you in the front row. We will escort you there immediately,” he explained.
She was furious and refused. ”No! I am to be on the dais with SeokJin and stand by his side when he speaks.” She actually stomped her foot when she finished.
“No,” Jimin said firmly, “you will not. JungKook is waiting to escort you and ensure you are….safe. Only Jin and Dae will be on camera or before the photo wall. That is my final decision.”
She started to protest again and he cut her off. “I understand. You can stay back here with JK so you won’t be tempted to do something that might reflect negatively on Jin or KimCom. “ he nodded.
That got her attention.
JK appeared and escorted her out.
The next few minutes were difficult as they waited for everyone to find seats.
The clock on the tower chimed the hour and Jimin nodded at them and took the stage.
As they waited for his opening remarks, they stood, a respectful distance apart, pleasant smiles intact, waiting to be called to speak.
Dae sighed as she thought about how many times she had done just this. Pretended to be just his acquaintance, his corporate rival, drinking buddy, business partner, any and everything but his lover.
They were sickeningly adept at this deception.
As the curtain was pulled back, they strolled onto the stage, their masks firmly in place, their smiles confident, their hearts broken.
Dae stepped to the podium and delivered her comments in a clear, strong voice.
When she was finished the audience applauded as she stepped back and watched Jin approach the podium.
