A few days later
Sam's POV
It's been a few weeks since Rachel left with Claire. That day was absolute hell for me.
I didn't know what I had done wrong. I woke up at six in the morning to that note, and I was absolutely crushed. My heart sank to my stomach and I couldn't stop freaking out.
These were the girls I loved and I couldn't risk losing them.
Later that night at around 11pm, I sat on our leather couch with my head in my hands. I needed Rachel to come home. I needed my daughter and I needed her.
The door opened shortly after that. Rachel had an overnight tote bag in one hand and Claire in her car seat in the other. I got up once I heard the doorknob, my heart breaking to see my wife and daughter.
Rachel didn't look at me, but placed Claire in her nursery immediately. She came out a few moments later, shutting the door quietly.
She finally looked at me, her eyes watery with tears.
We stood there worlds apart.
Until she ran towards me, her arms wrapping around me and her body crashing onto mine. I held her right, burying my wet face into her neck.
"Rach," I cried, "I missed you."
"I missed you too, Sammy." She wiped her tears, giving me a quick kiss.
"Please, Rachel." I pulled us apart, "Tell me why."
Silence hung in the air. She walked to our couch and we sat down, the thick air surrounding us.
"I..." She started, her throat right with tears.
"Sam, are you happy with me?" She asks, looking into my eyes."Rachel, of course I'm happy with you! We are a family. You, me, Claire-"
"Sam, with me. I know you're happy with your daughter..." She looks down, her blonde hair pulled into a messy ponytail.
"Rachel, you are my light. You've given me everything I ever wanted." I squeeze her arm.
"Sam, ever since we got married we haven't been...close." She gets up, walking around.
"Not been close?"
"I feel like we're two people who just need a partner and need a future. So we settled down and..."
"Rachel, are you not happy with me?" I get up, slowly facing her.
"I'm happy with you, Sam. I just think we need to work more on our relationship." She pinches the bridge of her nose.
"Okay, Rachel. We'll work. It's going to be hard with filming and Wales coming up but...whatever you want." I say, pursing my lips.
"Thank you." She gives me a dull hug. I try to smile, but I can't. "I'm going to go to bed. I'll see you soon." She leaves, going into our bedroom with her bag. I stand there without a response, rubbing my face with a sigh.
I walk to Claire's room, opening the door softly. She lays there sleeping away in her crib. I readjust her blanket, smiling at the beauty below me.
"You're my everything, Claire. I love you, darling girl." I kiss her on the top of her head. She stirs, but soon dozes back off.
I soon walk into our bedroom, changing into pajamas. With Rachel already asleep on the left, I get into the cold bed on the right. It takes me hours, but I fall asleep thinking about my marriage...and where it's going.
