This is a one shot where Jack basically finds a father in Optimus Prime.
Jack's POV
I sighed to myself as I sat alone at the lunch table at school. Miko was in trouble, as usual, and Raf was home sick, which made Bee sad that he couldn't see his best friend for a while. I smiled as my mind drifted to my new family, the Autobots. Arcee, my guardian, and arguably my best friend. Bulkhead, I didn't know as well, but we got along. It was hard to get to know Bumblebee, because I couldn't understand him, but he was a good and loyal soldier and scout. And Ratchet, of course, was very distant and didn't know any of us humans very well. Then, there was Optimus. The strong, caring, leader of the Autobots. I had watched him as he led his team, and saw how they seemed to see him as a father of sorts. And I couldn't help but see him as my father too. When he entrusted me with the Key to Vector Sigma, that meant he trusted me to get him back to us when we lost him. I couldn't help but think he had trusted me more than my own father had. I frowned at the thought, and finished my lunch, returning to class at the ring of the bell.
***time skip to end of school day***
I grinned as the bell finally rang. I could barely wait to go to base. I went outside to find Arcee. Instead, I found Optimus Prime himself. He appeared to be the only Autobot currently here, as Bulkhead couldn't pick up Miko because she had detention as usual. He used to wait outside until she was done, but she liked to escape detention and jump into Bulkhead, so they decided he would pick her up afterwards. I approached the huge semi, and climbed inside.
"Where's Arcee?" I asked him.
"She is on a scouting mission with Bumblebee right now, so I came to retrieve you." The Prime replied. I smiled, sinking against the seat. I didn't mind his quiet company at all.
Pretty soon, we were chatting quietly. I had asked him how families worked on his world, and he was explaining to me.
"How does the concept of family work in this world, Jack?"
I shrugged. "Well, it's pretty simple. In a normal family, two people who love each other decide to get married. Then, they have as many kids as they want, the husband usually gets a job to support the family, and they live happily ever after." Although, that is not how my story went. Optimus hummed, as he had a habit of doing.
"You mentioned that families had a father, but what has happened to your father, if you don't mind me asking?"
I frowned. It's now like I didn't mind, it was just a little personal.
"My dad left when I was five. It's okay though, he wasn't very nice."
Optimus hummed. "I'm very sorry, Jack."
"It's okay, Optimus. I think I've found someone who can replace him."
"So your mother is courting someone?" Optimus inquired innocently.
"No, no!" I chuckled at the thought. "I've just found a-guy who I can and have looked up to like that."
Optimus hummed again. "And who is this person, if I may ask?"
I hesitated. I didn't know how he would respond being the father figure of a human boy. I know his team saw him like that to a degree, but I wasn't even of the same species. I didn't even grow up on the same planet.
"You do not have to tell me if you do not want to; I was merely curious. I smiled at the glowing wheel.
"No, it's okay," I said, rubbing the back of my neck. "To be perfectly honest, it's you." I held me breath, waiting for his response. A deep rumble shook the truck. "I can most certainly say I am surprised, as I didn't know you saw me as such, but I am not disappointed. I myself see you as a son, as I see myself in you when I was much younger, before I became a Prime and was betrayed by my brother." He was silent for a moment. "If you should ever need anything, or even just anyone to talk to, I will be here. This I promise." I smiled, and hugged the steering wheel happily, making sure not to disrupt his driving.
"Thank you, Optimus" I whispered.
"You're welcome, Jack."
