"I know."
"Law-suit?"
They forgot Avin hadn't heard of the police run in Scott had.
"Some police officer tried to run me off the road and down a cliff on my way here. I ran him off the road and into a ditch. It was shallow though so he's fine. Mitchie had a stand-off with the chief police officer outside though."
"Of course he would, someone could've killed his best friend and fiancée, why wouldn't he?"
Everyone laughed, which covered the sound of Quincey burping after Avi had been burping him for the past 3 minutes. Avi tried to distract himself from the intensifying pain in his chest and all over his body, stomach especially and his sudden shortage of breath, though he was wearing the mask, by having a quiet conversation with his son.
"better, buddy? yeah?"
The baby cooed back at him, just as the pain began to increase and take over his body. He pulled on the hem of Kevin's shirt (I typed shit🤭) gaining his attention, immediately noting something was wrong.
"Avi, what's wrong?"
Avi couldn't do anything but hand Quincey to Kevin before he couldn't breathe at all and he felt like weights were being pressed down on his entire body, his ribs being crushed and his stomach... god he didn't know. But the monitors did as they began beeping frantically alerting everyone standing as doctors and nurses came rushing in the room, ushering everyone out. Kevin looked panicked.
"What's happening?"
"The rapid shift in his organs have caused slight congestion in his lungs as well as a visible blood clot in his stomach. We'll get him into surgery to remove both the clot and congestion."
Quincey was crying by now and the nurse looked down at the troubled child before back up at Kevin.
"We'll do our best to help, though the risk of death isn't that high."
She ran back to Avi's side as the was wheeled out and into theatre. Their midwife came in to check Quincey's stats.
"Surprisingly better than what I expected, we wanna keep him for a few days just to be sure though."
Kevin nodded after her, just as long as he didn't have to leave Avi behind.
------4 hours later------
Avi was wheeled back into the room, the doctor turning to Kevin.
"He should be fine now, we're keeping him in for a few days to monitor his progress."
"Yeah, ok. Thanks."
"No problem, hello little man."
The doctor caught Quincey staring at him the poor baby probably thinking'Who are you?' but the doctor just laughed and walked away. Kevin sat back down next to Avi.
"What did the doc say?"
"Keep him for a few days to monitor him, same with Quince so I guess I'll stay here until they're ok."
"You sure? You don't have any clothes."
"That doesn't matter."
"This is the maternity ward though, so there is a bathroom attached with a toilet and shower. "
"Want me to go back to your hotel room to bring you clothes, Kev?"
"I'll do that tomorrow."
"Don't be stupid, Kev, let's go Scotty."
Scömíche made their sassy exit to the new parent's hotel room to get Kevin some clothes just as Avi woke up.
"Hey there."
He smiled at his boyfriend, holding his arms out for his baby, who was gently placed into his arms, he smiled down at his son.
"are you gonna take quince back?"
"no, you both have to stay overnight to be monitored. i'm staying here."
"but you don't have any clothes."
"scott and mitch went to get my stuff for me."
A few hours passed and the duo came back with a duffel bag, handing it over to Kevin.
"Clothes, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, phone chargers, IPad, the works."
"Thanks guys. You should go back."
Quincey began to fuss, Avi deciding to see if he wanted a bottle, though he rejected it, Avi checked his diaper... Bingo. Wet.
"Someone needs a change and to go to sleep. Pass me a diaper and diaper cream will you, Kev?"
Kevin handed Avi what he asked for while he changed the boy's full diaper, applying the cream to prevent a rash, though there was a bit of trouble...
"Oh my gosh- AHAH!"
"He's squirting!"
Kevin was helplessly laughing in the corner while Avi used the already full diaper to protect himself against the pee flying at his face, courtesy of his son. The boy was done squirting and Avi used that as an opportunity to finally get the diaper on his bare bottom, tickling him while he did, Quincey smiling as best as he could, he couldn't really because he was only a newborn and newborns don't really smile. He cradled his baby just as he fell asleep against his mother, who was honestly close behind. Kevin took the child, letting Avi change into a pair of pyjamas and going back to bed, and placed him in the plastic bed and swaddled him in the blanket (light in the hallway just started playing on my playlist on spotify...) letting the boy and his mother sleep.
"Y'all wanna head home?"
Kevin asked all of them, he saw Kirstie and her mum trying to fight off sleep and Mitch was asleep in Scott's arms, Scott carrying him bridal style.
"You boys will be ok?"
"We'll be fine, mom. You guys can go back to the hotel."
Everyone left the new family in the hospital, Shelly and Curline kissing their boys goodbye and their grandson getting the bigger kisses from both of them before Kevin changed himself and kissed both of his boys goodnight before he curled up in the bed that was next to the hospital bed.
"goodnight, my loves."
He was soon gone after that.
***1 hour later***
Avi woke up to the sound of a baby crying across the room, panicking he sat up, thinking his child was being taken from him. Only to find Kevin holding him trying to feed him and calm him down, though nothing worked. Avi held his arms out for the boy.
"Give him here."
Kevin pouted.
"I was trying not to wake you."
He complained, handing over the child as Avi began to sing Light In The Hallway to him, Kevin joining in to make a two-part harmony, sending the child to sleep in an instant, avi giving him a dummy and giving him to Kevin to put back to bed before he crawled back into bed himself.
"how long were you trying for?"
"five minutes before you woke up. that was long and tedious i tried everything."
"as my mother would say, welcome to parenting."
"quite the welcome gift then."
"it'll get better, kevvy... we're doing well so far."
