A window of opportunity.

As the saying goes, when life closes a door it opens a window. Or in this case, it gave a chance to capture the Blaze Rods after they've been thrown off course by some unknown force. Also known as a speedy Jesse. Life was sort of interesting that way, giving many different directions on where it could go, with the smallest change causing the biggest impact. It was a domino effect in the sense once one thing broke the cycle that was fighting monsters over and over, that would lead to an opening on which you could act to officially prevent the cycle from restarting.

When it comes to these windows of opportunity, there are often two ways people go about it. They either wait for these windows, or they need to act without a plan before the window closes. Best case scenario it works out, but worst case scenario you miss that window and the cycle continues. Although it is indeed a risk, some risks are worth taking, much like how some people are worth fighting for, or some activities are worth trying. You can never really know the result that it's going to have, so it is a relative gamble.

But you never really know what's going to happen unless you try, right?

CHAPTER 9. POETIC JUSTICE

> Lukas' POV

I wasn't able to tell how much time had passed, all I knew was that Petra and I were fighting at the front doing what we could to take down the immediate spawns. When it came to ones that flew like ghasts, there, unfortunately, wasn't much we could do. Usually we would be able to reflect the fire charges, but trying to pull something like that was too risky in this situation, not to mention how there were a few things keeping us all preoccupied.

Every now and then I would glance around to make sure that the other fighters were doing alright, especially [Y/N]. They only started learning how to fight, I could only hope that it was enough for them to defend themselves.

While fighting there wasn't much time to talk considering we were a little busy trying to fight off the spawns, but nothing could entirely prepare me for the thing that Petra said.

" Jesse? You're Alive?! " She called in shock, before quickly going back to the task at hand upon noticing a ghost. For a moment I quickly looked over to see if she was being serious about it, before seeing them myself. But how? Wasn't there supposed to be a void? How did they end up here?  " Lukas, snap out of it! "

Coming back to my senses I gave a quick nod before looking towards a spider whose attention was focused on me, waiting for them to jump before striking quickly, watching it hit the ground, and turn to smoke. Even though Jesse was here now, everyone in town was still in danger. If not the mobs showed that, it would be the screaming of Sky City's residents. Oddly enough mobs seemed to stop spawning momentarily, with Petra and I mutually knowing that it was now or never.

From what I could tell, Gill and Maya had fallen backward almost as if some force had pushed them back, which left the perfect opportunity to take back control of the situation. Before we could do anything else, we needed to stop more mobs from being spawned. Rushing over to the entrance of the palace, as Gill and Maya were about to stand back up to throw another round, we swiftly pushed them and kept them still by pointing our blades uncomfortably close to them. " Hand over the spawn eggs, nice and easy. " Petra spoke with an intimidating tone.

Gill was quick to rummage around their inventory to take out the spawn eggs to hand them over, while Maya seemed more reluctant but did the same. To say I didn't feel at least a little bad for doing this to them wouldn't entirely be true. Even though we had drifted pretty far after the events of the Witherstorm, there would always be a part of me that still cared for them. Even though it seemed we went different directions on how to move on. But even then that was no reason to let them off easy with all of this. In a way it made me feel glad that Petra took the reigns on talking. I wouldn't really know what to say to them. At least not now.
