"Barry, I swear to god if you flash over here-"   "Y/N-"   "I'll just find another way." Your voice was hard, cemented like the feeling in your gut. You looked back and saw your words hit him, bringing hurt and confusion to his face. "I'm sorry." You were. But you weren't. You felt like you were where you were supposed to be. You just wished he wasn't here with you. You looked out at Central City's skyline, your hair whipping in the wind and stinging your face. The lights in the building and on the cars weaving down the streets made you feel as if you had an audience. You resisted the urge to give them a sarcastic curtsy. "Y/N, please don't do this." Damn Barry and his hero Complex. "Why? Because it gets better? Because there are people here that love me? Because this isn't the answer?" You rattled off the canned responses. "I know. I know all those things. And that's what's killing me"Anger found it's way into your voice and you clenched your fists. You turned so your feet were parallel with the ledge, so you could look Barry in the eyes and help him understand. "Knowing those things doesn't fix the problem- fix me. Life gets better, I spend all day laughing with Cisco and Caitlin, I get happy, but I still end up here." You gestured around the rooftop Barry had found you on. "There's this broken thing in me, it  leaves me sad and aching and numb all at the same time. All I want is to be better, but all I know is this mess. I hate it, but I can't help it."

Barry shook his head, his mouth trying to find the right words. "Where's the hope in that?" He finally asked, taking a careful step forward. "Here" you responded, turning once again to face the drop that waited for you. Suddenly you felt something smooth and warm slip into your hand. You looked down and saw the red leather glove of Barry's suit. You looked up confused as to why your friend was now on the ledge with you, holding your hand. "Okay," Barry said. "What?"  "Let's do this."  "What, no-"   "Y/N, I haven't let you go through a single thing alone since we've become friends, I'm certainly not going to let you do this alone. " Barry's face was resolved but soft. There was no catch, just sincerity. "I can't take you with me. I can't take you away. This city needs you."   "You need me. And I need you." You felt sick to your stomach. Why would he offer to do such a thing? To step over the ledge, fall and let gravity take him away from all he cared about. The longer you looked away from the choice at your feet and at Barry the more his words soaked up his pain. Like a towel laid over a spilt drink, you felt his heart and humanity draw you closer to him and away from the edge. "Barry..." You don't know how he did it, how he made you feel something more than the hollowness in your chest. But you were so glad he did. Your words caught in your throat so you threw your arms around his neck, burying your face in his shoulder. "It's okay Y/N." H e said, wrapping his arms tightly around you. "I've got you."
