"Kyoka, look! It's a puppy!" you help the little animal up, giggling loudly when it licked your face. "We can't keep it. Don't even-" but your eyes were already filling with tears, giving her your own set of puppy dog eyes. "How would you even tell the king? He doesn't know that you're out of the palace."
"I'll just say that someone from a neighboring kingdom gave the puppy as a congratulatory gift! Like those wedding things! Please, Kyoka?" your bottom lip jutted out. "You of all people should know that we couldn't even care for an animal if we tried. We're travelling too much right now."
You put the puppy back in the pen. "Awh, man. He would've made a great addition to our family." you walked out of the store, continuing to explore the town's shopping area. It was very lively, with people singing and dancing in the square.
You caught sight of something that looked like a dancing contest, and you lit up. "Kyoka! Let's go compete!" with a small pout, she gave in. You dragged her over to the sign up sheet, messily scrawling your names. (you put your maiden name, of course. You couldn't have anyone knowing who you were.)
You pulled your friend into the fray, starting to dance to the music. Your years of dancing in your village and lessons at the palace were paying off, and it was clear Kyoka knew what she was doing, too. You didn't actually know what you were doing, you were mostly just twirling around and dipping each other.
You managed to catch the judge's attention, though. "Isn't this fun?" you panted, raising your leg as your handmaiden dipped you elegantly. She didn't respond, too focused on making sure you didn't fall.
Your hair was loose, flying everywhere as you continued to dance. You didn't even notice when the music stopped, too wrapped up in you and Kyoka's own little world. You spun, your dancing style shifting into something more frantic as you finally finished up.
You wiped the sweat from your forehead, smiling at your dancing partner. The judge handed you a sack of gold coins, announcing your win. You were also forced to sit as a portrait was drawn of you, because apparently the contest was very famous..? Oh, whatever.
The painter handed you a copy of the portrait. "Kyoka, can we keep it? Please? It's so pretty!" it really was. And it wasn't too big, either. It was the perfect size for you to carry as you travelled. She hesitated, before finally giving in.
"Thank you so much!"
You looked up at the ceiling, the weight of your exercise finally catching up to you. "Did you think today was fun?" you asked, but you looked over to see Kyoka snoring lightly. She wasn't even under the covers. You shook your head playfully, rolling over. You closed your eyes, falling into a dreamless sleep.
You were up early the next morning, quickly paying for your room and Lee's stables. You climbed onto your horse, making sure that Kyoka had the portrait of the two of you one last time. "Onwards, Lee!" you giggled, and then your hose was running.
Yousnatched the map from the man's hands, laying it out fully on the bar table. You grabbed a dagger from the man's belt, ignoring his protests as you stabbed the star on the map, representing where you currently were.
"We've been travelling for five days. And that's with constantly moving. If Enji's supposed to be back in around one to two weeks, it's smart to spend the next two days exploring this area. Then, we could head back home, making it back before Enji does. We'd be playing it safe, but he never really specified how long he'd be gone, so it's just being smart." you dragged the knife across the map from the star to the big castle, your castle.
"Sounds good." the man was still attempting to yell at you for defacing his map, and you finally turned to him. You threw two gold coins at him, which shut him up. "I'll be keeping the knife and the map. Thanks." you downed your beer, slamming the mug down onto the table.
You were exploring the town the next morning, hopping from bar to bar. Of course, you didn't let Kyoka have anything more than a few sips here and there- her getting sick would set you back. Plus, she didn't even like beer, there wasn't even a point.
"Hey, little lady," you looked down at the kid, who looked to be about ten. "wanna come back to my place? Your tits are really-" he reached for your hips, and then Kyoka stepped in. She stabbed the little kid in the eyes, slapping his hands away from your body.
"Where are your parents?" you restrained Kyoka from doing anything worse, taking hold of both of her hands. "I'm Prince Minoru of the Mineta Kingdom!" oh. So that's where he was from. You knew he looked familiar. "Ouch. Sorry, kid. You should leave, though. My-"
Minoru started to drool. "Ooh! She's your girlfriend! That's hot! Tell me, do you push your tits together to get off?" you gagged. "Yeah, you might be a prince, but nobody creeps over my friend. That's too far. Kyoka, I can handle this." you picked up the little kid by the collar, maneuvering your arm so his drool didn;t get on you.
You reached the doorway of the bar. "Sorry, kid." and with that, you threw the little bitch. He landed in a bush not too far away, and you shut the door before he could come running back. "Sorry, Kyoka." you apologized, coming to sit by your friend. "You wanna leave?"
"Yeah. Let's go."
