Dib was walking to Zim's house after a day out with his family. The trip had left him thinking about the nature of his father. Professor Membrane had taken them out to one of his morning speeches, which placed quite a lot into perspective about his father. That man was too confident in himself to a point where he had placed the pursuit of scientific knowledge over his family. He wished to know everything, sometimes pushing too many boundaries.
Dib had thought about the idea that his father was only invested in his studies because he was hiding something. He had many conspiracy theories about the man, but he never thought to question his father about it. Regardless, Dib just knew that he wanted to prove he was right to the world, which is why Zim's words stung last night. He reached Zim's door and rang the doorbell. In his heart, he had been apologizing since last night.
Hearing the word "boyfriend" had tipped the relationship scale toward Zim's side, since he was already taking more of the weight. Zim finally opened the door and looked at Dib. Zim's eyes grew disappointed, but it was unsure if it was at Dib or himself. The smell of chocolate cake had said hello to Dib right after. Zim's hair was up in a bun, and he had on a pink apron that slightly matched his red sweater dress. There was cake batter on his apron and his sleeves. Dib's eyes dilated looking back at Zim.
"Hey," Zim said a bit tired, "You can come in..."
"What happened?" Dib said in a softer tone.
"Gir is what happened..."
"HAII DIIIIIB!" Girl yelled. Gir giggled from the kitchen. Dib gave a small wave in return and walked inside. Zim closed the door behind him and headed back into the kitchen to clean up the table of cake batter. Dib grabbed Zim's hand before he could leave. Zim looked at him puzzled.
"Look..." Dib started, "I'm sorry about yesterday... I really am..."
"Leave that behind... I'll believe you when you start acting like you're sorry..." Zim said, "One thing I've noticed about you humans.... And unfortunately fellow Irkens... is that your actions speak more..." He freed his hand, " Anyone can learn any language, including the language of deceit..."
He said bitterly. Dib frowned, watching Zim go back into the kitchen. The pink glow he felt radiating from him also traveled away. He placed his hands in his pockets, then decided to take off his coat all together. His arms were wrapped in bandages up to his forearms. He walked into the kitchen and saw the chaos of the place. Zim glanced at him.
"Careful, there's flour on the floor-..." Zim said. He then studied Dib's arms, "Are your arms broken?"
"Oh uh, no," Dib answered, "It's... an anime thing?..."
Zim didn't know what anime was, nor did he wish to bother with it. He turned back to wiping the table down. Dib wasn't really a cutter, but he would often throw himself into situations where he didn't care if he got hurt for knowledge. Like sitting in a bush of thorns. Due to this carelessness, he would get injured a lot.
Dib scratched his head and looked at Zim. He walked behind Zim and softly hugged him. Zim froze in place with his sponge in hand. He straightened his back and looked over his shoulder. He then turned around and bumped noses with Dib, moving Dib's glasses a bit upward.
"I'm trying to get used to this..." Dib said.
"Dib... Is it that hard to...." Zim paused, "I guess it is... You were raised on it..."
"I never liked someone like this before... I think about you way too much for me to just ignore it now..."
Zim snarled at him, "Dib, you consistently assume that I'm only a monster, yet you started all of this... If you didn't trust me, why would you start this?"
