Alyssa's POV
I laid back on the wall in front of my moms office listening to her sob silently. I hated hearing her cry, it just made me want to cry myself. I mostly hated it when she lies to me and tells me nothing is wrong when I know there is. I mean I know she's my mother and all but what kind of a fool did she think i was?
I had been standing there for about three minutes listening to moms and my father lawyers conversation. I know something isn't right to, I can't seem to put the peices together and I know I'm not suppose to be eavesdropping on my mom and dads personal business but I can't help but wonder what's going on. I know it has something to do with Gavin and Janet and something about some kind of company called DCFS, whatever that is. I just can't seem to figure what is. MY mom is so careful about keeping things a secret and when i see my dad he's usually all happy to see me and my brothers and sister that I can't tell whether or not he's in a good mood until I over hear he and mom talking at night. And most of the time he's complaining about work. I can't help but to have this strange feeling inside of me that is telling me whatever it is that is going on is going to be really bad, and might even change our lives forever.
I sighed and stood up and walked down the hallway back towards the Den where my brothers and sisters were all sitting. Playing and watching TV, you usually had a time limit in watching TV because my mom didn't want us to do that all day long. She'd whether see us read or play games or something. But I've read almost every book that I could read in the Library and as far games are concerned, mom doesn't allow us to run in the house because she's afraid we might get hurt. And it's wet and humid out side so there really isn't much to do. I sat down on the couch next to my cousin Tiffany she was my age exactly born two months before I was. She was my best friend. She looked at me and frowned her eyebrows."Hey what's wrong?"She asked.
I shrugged."I don't know, maybe you should ask my mom that."
"What do you mean?"She asked, ignoring my sarcasm.
"Well, you know I told you about how my mom has been acting a little weird lately?"
She nodded.
"Well, I went in there to ask if we could have lunch yet and i over heard her talking to Tom again an-"
"You were eavesdropping on mom again!"Prince said, cutting me off.
I rolled my eyes."Stay out my conversation you nerd!"I shot back.
"Hey, stop!" My oldest cousin Rashad said, he was like my big brother. When he was around I didn't feel like I was in charge of all six of my siblings.Since I was the first born."You two fight to much."
"Well he started it!!!!!!!!"
"No I didn't!"
"Yes you did, you liar!"
"If you don't stop I'm going to tell Aunt Liyah on both of you and if you say she's not in the mood then you wouldn't want me telling her then."
He was right, we wouldn't want him telling. When my mom wasn't happy she was not happy, the complete opposite from my dad when he just hides it in front of us."Whatever."I said.
"Now what happened?"Tiffany whispered back to me.
"she was crying, and I can't seem to figure out why."I said."It's like she's worried about something and I have this that something is going to happen, I just don't know what is."
"You usually investigate on these kinds of things."
"I do, I do. But mom wasn't involved then, I feel uncomfortable meddling in her business." Tiffany gave me a confused look and I forgot that she was nine years old like me but she wasn't into words she's never heard before like meddling or any of the other words I have added to my list of Words Nine Year Olds Don't Say."I feel uncomfortable getting all in her business."I rephrased.
