[Book 1/?] [unedited] You had known L since he arrived at the orphanage thanks to Mr Wammy telling you to make friends with him and show him around. But something about the boy made you curious. The two of you grew to be friends and detectives along the way, although L became the worlds greatest detective, surpassing you. But ever since that faithful day you met him, you'd been adding to your own little case, one you'd work on for years to come. Case file: L Lawliet. Why did you feel so attached to him?

L Lawliet, worlds greatest detective and possibly the smartest person alive... can't talk. Well, he can, but only to those he's deeply connected with. Partially mute, he hides behind his screen and solves crimes anonymously. Speaking to taskforces with text to speech, and no face shown. Until he's pushed into a corner with a particularly tricky case, and ends up having to make his first face to face interaction. (y/n) shows up to the hotel room of the worlds greatest detective, thinking they'd see a well polished, wise old man. Instead they're met with a tired, young and rather huggable looking guy with eyebags holding a torn notebook page saying "I am L, and I can't talk" -- GNC READER. Basically all language for the reader is gender neutral, anyone can read! Non binary mfs rejoice. When the eventual lemon hits it'll be kinda alluded to an AFAB body (bc marketing to my main audience yo), but all pronouns are they/them and there's no descriptions of tiddies or anything. The institution known as Wammy's House was, as you probably already know, founded for the purpose of raising extraordinarily gifted children that would grow up to benefit society. An undeniably noble goal. And yet, that quiet orphanage in Winchester hides behind its modest facade the bloodied remains of two innocent children who's traumas would haunt their legacy forever. The generation of failures - A and B. We all know of the infamous B, Beyond Birthday, perpetrator of the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. The symphony of his life was a tragic, cascading hysteria; ringing of fury and devastation in the ears of our troubled organisation. ...But what of A? Well, the official story goes like this: A (or Above Asphodel), was the first of L's successors, and, unable to handle the enormous pressure, committed suicide at seventeen. But that's inaccurate. In truth, A suffered years of abuse that the hands of the Wammy's House. And more importantly, A didn't truly die. Every life can be read as a parable with a moral and a theme. Those of us whose lives were marred by extreme misfortune are given temporary refuge from death and rebirth to heal the wounds they suffered. Above Asphodel was one of these people. And, seven years after Above's suicide, the detective known as L met an untimely death as well, at the hands of Kira. His too was a life cut short; a story incomplete. But there's no such thing as 'the end'. There is no final act of existence. The fact is, we continue to exist long after we're gone, the only difference being what form we take, and for what purpose. And the Universe, in her usual enigmatic fashion, chose to continue the stories of the first two Wammy's kids post-mortem.

You're fresh to the world of professional acting, although you've been training your whole life. Specifically, you have performed as several testimonies for mock trials at Wammy's House to help train L and his successors over the years. But now, he really needs you. L's most recent case entails several murders, in which all the victims were last seen with a particular suspect. To prove this man's guilt, L needs you to go undercover in order to get close to him and get concrete evidence or maybe even a confession. As the case drags on for longer than expected, L may begin to have a confession of his own... This is kinda a self-insert, but in case you're a broadway nut like me I made it an x reader so you can enjoy the ride. Also there's an original dude in this named Victor.
