Switched [L x Reader AU] ? Death Note

So there you sat, around the kotatsu having just been thrown a curveball. Misa knew, and to your surprise she was siding with you. She seemed so conflicted, she wanted to stay with Light and see him change into a better person, but also wanted to show her understanding and sympathy to the system and help keep them safe.

You didn't really know what to do, and since Deneuve was the one in the front right now, you couldn't really ask the system for their input. He was only 7, he didn't understand the full situation. You'd have to wait until someone else switched out.

Deneuve in question was distracted building blocks on the table, making towers and shapes. The whole time Misa was explaining how she accidentally found out and how she promised she'd keep it a secret, she'd glance over at Deneuve, taking in the sight of L's body acting like a child blissfully ignorant to the whole situation. She'd never seen that body sit normally before, it was strange.

"Well... I guess I can't really do anything but take your word for it. But remember if you double cross us here I'll-" you began.

"Slit my throat? I know. I promise I won't say anything. And when someone... uh, adult is in the front I'll promise them too. He... or they? Look a bit too young to understand what's going on right now" Misa finished.

You both looked over at Deneuve who was adding the final touches to his block tower before moving onto the next build. He was completely unaware of how serious this situation was.

"I've never seen that body so... childish before. It's odd" Misa muttered.

"Yeah seeing a new alter for the first time can be a bit uncanny. You never know what actions they'll do" you replied.

It seems someone in the system had finally noticed what was going on, because Deneuve suddenly stopped his building and blinked a few times, trying to pull himself back into the front. This time the switch was smooth, and in only a few seconds someone had taken the child's place.

"What the- oh... the kid" they muttered, seeing the blocks in their hands.

"You good?" You asked.

"Gimme a sec..." they replied, still slightly disassociated.

Misa watched intently, she'd never seen a switch before. It was rather interesting actually, how they can be in the blink of an eye or take hours to fully ground yourself. The tone of the alters voice gave you an idea who it was, but until they'd grounded themselves you couldn't know for sure.

"Well fuck me gently a chainsaw that kid can really fight"

Ah, that was clearly Ryuga then. Misa blinked in slight shock, never having heard that voice swear before.

"Deneuve wanted to play more?" You asked.

"Yeah he tried to stay in the front, nows not the time though. What is she doing here?" Ryuga asked, pointing to Misa.

Unless you're co-conscious, it's hard to tell what was going on in the front before you switched out. That's why when switched happened the alter was usually confused and took a few minuets to gather themselves, figure out what was going on from context clues or what they knew was on the schedule for the day.

Ryuga could kind of tell what was going on, clearly Misa had somehow found out. But he wasn't in the know about all the details.

"She knows, it was by accident. She insists she's in our side" you explained.

Ryuga looked over at Misa, scanning her down and giving her a skeptical look. Misa felt like this rather blunt and slightly aggressive alter was looking right through her, reading her souls.

"I promise, I swear to you I'll keep my mouth shut. I know how hard it is to have a trauma disorder, I wouldn't want to make someone suffer even more" Misa said, sincerity in her tone.

Ryuga crossed his arms, looking her up and down with skepticism again.

"And your dog shit boyfriend? The one I kicked in the face?" He questioned.

Oh, so THIS was the alter that came out during the fight. Misa took note not to get on his bad side, or he'd do everything he could to make sure whoever hurt them got their comeuppance. 

"I... I love him, I really do. But I can't just sit by and watch him deliberately trigger people. I don't know why he's doing this, sure you guys don't see eye to eye, but this is too far. I don't stand by what he did, and I'll try to get him to back off. I just hope whatever triggered this behaviour from him passes..." Misa sighed.

"Just dump him" Ryuga said.

"Ryuga that's not how this works" you jumped in.

"Why not? He's an asshole, just dump his ass"

You sighed, as much as you agreed with that sentiment, it wasn't that easy. Misa was still clearly hung up on Light, and he had her in an iron grip. Even if she wanted to leave, it'd be harder than it looked. That's the tragic truth of abusive relationships.

"Because Light is an unstable person. We don't want him to freak out and go nuts on anyone" you explained.

"...Right" Ryuga said.

He understood when you put it that way. He carried most of the systems trauma as the trauma holder. He knew the best out of everyone what abuse was like, and he understood that Misa leaving might not be that straight forward when you explained it like that.

"I can't promise he'll change, but I'm trying to get through to him. Either way I'll keep all of this a secret, I'm not going to just let him trample someone's mental state. I know how horrible that feels" Misa assured.

Ryuga pondered a moment, he'd have to talk it over with the rest of the system. She seemed sincere, and she knew that if she tried anything funny she'd have to answer to both you and him. Would she really risk that? For Lights sorry ass? You could crush her in one hand if you had to, and she knew it.

"Well, I'll have to talk to he rest of the system so you're not clear yet. But... you're in the great. Don't fuck this up Amane" Ryuga caved.

"I promise! I promise I won't!" Misa sighed in relief.

She didn't mean any harm, all she wanted was to keep a fellow trauma victim safe and hopefully change Light for the better. Maybe that last part was her lying to herself, but she could at least try. As long as she was here in taskforce with you guys, no one would get to the system.

"Can I ask something..?" She spoke up.

"Oh god, here some the questions" Ryuga snickered.

"It's an interesting disorder, what do you expect?" You added.

Misa looked down at the body sitting normally, and found the whole image of it so surreal. She'd never seen the body like that before.

"What's with the sitting thing?" She asked.

Ryuga immediately rolled his eyes and sighed, he'd always wondered that himself.

"Oh my god I have no idea. L and Ryuzaki are so weird! I don't get it, they just... HAVE to curl up like damn rolley polley bugs"
