After a Highly Unproductive Afternoon

"Who's ready to rumble?!" Some Hermes kid yells into the monster-proof mic we had set up for the reading at tonight's dinner and campfire.

I simply did not have the patience for that kind of rockstar enthusiasm when I am this close to finding Percy. Just one book, 500 or so pages and I'll know where Percy is. Percy was very obviously on the front of that book and I just want to skip this to get to it. We already know how their quest goes, let's get on to the important stuff.

Thalia, the hunters, and Grover are coming but won't be here for three days at least. They are my oldest friends, I haven't seen them in ages, with Thalia off running the hunt, and Grover off doing Lord of the Wild things, both looking for Percy. I just kind of wish they could be here with me, as selfish as it sounds.

Travis yelled at the kid to get down before Chiron shows him what a bullseye sees when an arrow is coming at it. Chiron nods at him and takes center stage, or in our case, center pavilion.

"Campers, let's all settle down. It appears that it's Jason's point of view, would you like to read it yourself?"

Jason stood with all the confidence expected from a son of Jupiter. While it was obvious from the way he held himself under the eyes of the whole camp he's been in the spot life his whole life and it didn't phase him. He spoke in the voice of a reluctant diplomat about to make the mistake that ends his reign.

"Sure, Chiron, why not?"

As he made his way over to the little lawn chair set up with the books, I thought it couldn't be more ironic for the son of Jupiter, a natural ruler, to be sitting in the cheapest mockery of his father's throne that anyone could find.

"The Lost Hero. Third person? This just got really awkward," he knows how to make a laugh that's for sure.

"EVEN BEFORE HE GOT ELECTROCUTED, Jason was having a rotten day."

Jason had this look of impending doom on his face as he read with a sigh in his voice. That wasn't in vain when half the camp broke out laughing at the irony of it. Maybe we're all just strung a little tight lately, maybe the war that's only a year in the past still leaves a cloud over the veteran's sense of humor, or maybe it was just really funny that the son of Jupiter got electrocuted.

"He woke in the backseat of a school bus, not sure where he was, holding hands with a girl he didn't know."

"Kidnapped?"

"Yeah, by my step mother," Jason answered in a voice that showed just what he thought about the queen of the heavens. I couldn't agree more, really.

"Wow, that must have been really freaky," Piper broke in with slight horror. She probably never thought about how she had had her memories altered so she knew him, while he never even knew her.

"That wasn't necessarily the rotten part."

"Awwwwwwww," Almost the entire Aphrodite cabin teased.

Poor Jason just had a permanent cringe on his face as he reads about what he thought at first seeing his now girlfriend.

"The girl was cute, but he couldn't figure out who she was or what he was doing there. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, trying to think.A few dozen kids sprawled in the seats in front of him, listening to iPods, talking, or sleeping. They all looked around his age ... fifteen? Sixteen?"
