The village is surprisingly quiet for a Monday afternoon. I made record time this morning in the market. I was able to get everything on the list including the ice cream that Kakashi put at the top.
I giggle at the fact that he went out of his way to write that above everything else we had put on there. Even putting a little smiley face next to it.
I don't dawdle on my way to the field as I'm excited to learn the jutsu that I've wanted to learn for a while now.
I haven't put much effort into any of my training recently. There had been too much going on.
But I'm ready to dedicate myself again.
I make my way through the streets, people watching along the way.
"What's the rush short stuff?" I smell the familiar scent of a cigarette and look over to see Asuma walking beside me.
"I'm not that short." I huff. I reach out and nudge him with my elbow but he doesn't budge.
"You're like almost an entire foot shorter than me." He teases.
"I'm 5'5. That's not that short." I roll my eyes.
He chuckles to himself. "So where ya headed?" He asks, kicking a small rock out of his way.
"Kakashi is going to teach me his Purple Lightning Justsu. So I'm headed to meet him at our training spot."
He raises an eyebrow at me as he takes a long drag of his cigarette.
"This I gotta see." He says amused.
I sigh. "Fine. But you're not allowed to make fun of me out there." I say sternly.
He nods his head but the hint of a smirk tells me my words mean nothing to him.
We leave the busy part of the village and walk down the dirt road towards the field.
"So Emiko is dragging me to go furniture shopping with you guys tomorrow." He mumbles.
"Yay! It'll be fun!" I say in an extra chipper voice to push his buttons.
He side eyes me, flicking his cigarette into the dirt. "She says you guys are going to be best friends. Apparently you two really got along last night." He says.
I smile at him. "I really like Emiko. She seems perfect for you." He smiles back at me.
"So don't fuck it up Asuma." I warn. Asuma has never known how to settle down before. It was always a different girl, every other night. When he started seeing Emiko, it took us all by surprise. But it feels good to know that he's found someone that has brought this side out of him.
"Did you ever think we would be playing house like this?" He asks me. He can't hide the grin on his face and neither can I.
Did I ever think that Kakashi and I would be living together, and in love? Maybe part of me new that I loved him. But I never would've imagined he could ever love me back in the same way. All of this, it's more than I could've ever asked for.
"No. But I love it." I mumble barely loud enough for him to hear.
He smiles down at the ground as we walk up onto the field.
"Same.""So we have an audience then?" Kakashi asks without looking up from his book. He's sitting on the ground, leaning against the tree, looking mildly stressed.
"Yeah, I'm here to watch Ari fry her hands." Asuma snickers.
"This is what I meant by you can't make fun of me, you asshole." I scowl at him and run ahead until I'm standing next to Kakashi. I drop down to my knees to kiss his cheek.
