You had gotten yourself into some serious trouble. The best kind of trouble, of course. It was anybody's guess who would break first, but a breaking point was just around the corner. It was getting a little ridiculous, and you both hated to look childish, but more than that you were both stubborn as hell. This was trouble of the Spencer Reid variety.
It all started two weeks ago at the bar. You walked in wearing your new dress, and you knew you looked hot, you were expecting compliments. What you were not expecting was for your favorite coworker and best friend of 3 years, Spencer, to be awestruck as you walked over to the booth. He got up to let you into the booth and stood there with his jaw on the floor for much too long; not in a million years did you expect to be ogled by Dr. Spencer Reid. Morgan had told him to "close his mouth or he'd catch flies, Pretty Boy" which, expectedly, caused him to blush deeply. What was unexpected, again, was that for some reason you found his blush to be... cute.
Later, when you'd gone to the bar to get another round, he'd offered to go with you. He was always doing stuff like that for the girls when you would all go out, he was a great friend and an even better protector. When you ordered the drinks you found him staring again, and you just shot him a huge smile; he was your best friend after all.
"You look amazing tonight, y/n" he said, obviously trying to be nonchalant, and if you weren't a profiler you'd have believed his act.
"Thanks Doc. Are ya sure you got a long enough look?" you'd teased. Clearly, this wasn't a teasing moment for him, because he looked mortified.
"I-I'm so sorry y/n, I didn't m-mean to-" he began to stutter out.
"Spence!" you cut him off, placing a firm hand on his chest before he completely spun out. "It's fine! We're friends, remember? I don't mind, you can look as long as you'd like," you said with a smirk. You had no clue what force compelled you to flirt with him all of a sudden, but hey, why not? His blush deepened and he looked down to try to hide his smile.
Grabbing the tray of drinks from the bar you said, "And, um, you don't look too bad yourself, doc." As you walked the drinks back to the group you could swear you felt his eyes on you.
You weren't the type to dwell on things. Thoughts and feelings and occurrences just, were; they didn't need to make sense to you. That's how you were able to manage your newfound affinity for flirting with Spencer, and take it in stride. It's new, and it may complicate things, but you'd roll with it and see where it took the two of you. You weren't even sure if he liked you, maybe he was just staring because he is a guy after all. Spencer, on the other hand, was agonizing over this whole thing. He truly didn't mean to stare, but in that moment he was so enamored by you that his big brain shrunk instantly. He then spent over an hour trying to realize how a certifiable genius could have missed something so colossal: he had feelings for you. He was attracted to you, he had a crush on you, he wanted to be with you- the whole nine. And it all came to him like an avalanche at the bar that night. He was sure you'd never like him back, that you were just playing with him because you guys were friends, and he definitely didn't want to ruin your friendship. However, the past two weeks have proven, once again, that while Spencer's mind may be brilliant, he has a lot to learn in matters of the heart.
Ever since that Friday night two weeks ago, you've been testing the waters with Spencer, and like the genius he is, he'd caught on. You'd bring him coffee and wait for him to blush as he thanked you. He'd walk you to your car at night and almost give you a hug goodbye. You'd wear a low-cut top tucked into your work pants, and the next day he'd have his glasses on. You'd always told him how you loved his glasses, and it was him putting on a little show for you. You'd lean against his desk and tell jokes, and he'd leave a favorite book of his in your bag with a little note saying that he thought you'd like it.
