A chill runs up my spine as I try to shove the memory back down to where it came from.

Shizune interrupts my thoughts as we stop in front of an open door.

"Right in here. She'll be with you shortly." She motions me into Lady Tsunade's office.

As I turn the corner to enter the room, I spot the man with the brunette ponytail I know way too well.

"Shikamaru?"

He turns his head and stands from his chair, offering me a wide grin.

"What's up, partner?" He pulls out the other chair for me to sit down next to him.

"Have we been assigned a mission together?" I ask, feeling thrown off guard.

"Looks like it." He chuckles. "You good with that?" He raises an eyebrow at me.

I nod my head, relaxing into the chair.

"Of course." I smile back at him. Despite whatever we had in the past, Shikamaru has always been someone I consider a friend.

We're adults. We can ignore our history and work together when needed. I'm sure of it.

We hear Lady Tsunade's heels tapping on the floor and we both stand as she enters her office.

"Good morning, thank you for arriving on time in such short notice."

She sits at her desk and we both settle back into our chairs.

"Akari, how is Kakashi coming along?" She looks at me with concern for my boyfriend on her face.

I smile back at her. "He's as good as new Lady Tsunade. Thank you for asking."

She nods her head and hands us each a folder.

"B rank. You're escorting Yugito Nii, a jinchuriki of the Hidden Cloud."

We both take our mission papers and look over them.

"There have been rumors that members of the Akatsuki are searching for jinchurikis. However we have been keeping tabs on most of the members and we have no reason to believe you will be followed or intercepted by any."

My jaw tightens at the mention of the Akatsuki. But I nod my head in understanding of the mission.

"Should be a total of four days. It's very important that you stay on schedule. Although we have accounted for the all members whereabouts, we cannot guarantee their absence if you run behind."

"Yes ma'am." We both say.

She glanced at the both of us.

"Very well then. You'll leave tonight. Please be at the main gates by six."

She smiles at us and nods her head, signaling for us to get up and leave.

We walk out of the office and wait until we're out of the building to speak freely to one another.

"No offense, but Temari is going to flip." He chuckles.

I turn my head towards him.

"I'm sorry Shikamaru. I hope that it doesn't create any issues between the two of you. I have no bad intentions." I try to explain.

He laughs again. "I know that. She knows that too. She just has a bit of a jealous side." He shakes his head.

"We'll get separate rooms for the night." I say.

"Ari, I know. Don't worry. She knows we're friends now."

I smile at him as I take my phone out to text Kakashi about lunch. Now worrying about how he will react to Shikamaru and I alone on a mission.
