Twenty-Five

"Clint's down!" I hear Natasha yell. I look back, but see that it's a minor wound, and that she has it covered. I continue to advance. "We need evac."

Thor speaks up, "I will take Barton to the jet. The sooner were gone the better. Get (Y/N) and secure the scepter."

"We have enhanced on the field. It must be the twins. Be careful." Steve calls out. The girl. The one who broke my angel. She better pray I don't cross paths with her.

"Thor's got Barton, Romanoff time to give our green friend his lullaby." Tony says over the radio. From a distance I can see Banner has made waste of most of the big threats. He was really useful, though from my understanding he hated when he became the Hulk.

"Drawbridge is open people, move in." Hearing Tony's words I start to advance quicker, I fall in line with Steve. As we get to the entrance of the base Tony and Sam land on either side of us.

"Let's do this." Steve says as we burst through the door. By now the base was pretty empty. A stray man or two, which we took care of easily. All of a sudden, we heard piercing screams... (Y/N).

"JARVIS, located the origin of the scream." Tony says, as we begin to run down the hall.

"Two floors down, second door on the left." Without hesitation I take off. Steve is not far behind me. Tony and Sam deciding to fly would be a quicker option, took off.

As I got closer, I could hear the screams get louder. My anger and rage taking hold of me, I would tear anyone apart who stood in my way. Tony got to the door first and blew it wide open with a thruster blast, we all ran in and then stopped cold.

(Y/N) was being shocked, her screams intensifying. But what stopped us cold was Strucker. One hand on the scepter, one on a gun pointed at her.

"It seems you've made it just in time Avengers." Strucker said, his words dripping with sarcasm, with a motion of his hand the electrocution stopped. (Y/N) hanging limply on her chains.

"Get away from her!" I make a move to advance, but I feel Steve hold me back as Strucker inched his gun closer to (Y/N), the barrel on her temple. "Not so fast soldat. You wouldn't want me to end the show early now, would you?" A sickly smug smile on his face appeared, one that I would love to punch out.

Tony lifted his iron mask to better see the man in the eyes, "What do you want?"

"It's not what I want Mr. Stark. It's what my angel wants..." A sinister smile took over his face as he gestured with his hand again. The chains that held (Y/N) suddenly release. Causing her to fall to the floor on her knees. It takes all her strength not to collapse on the floor.

"Angel, stand up dear..." Strucker says, using his gun to lift her chin. I glance at her eyes, hoping to see her brighten up, to recognize. But their dull, lifeless and blank. What have they done? My angel...

She got up slowly, but compliant. She stared straight at us, right through us. I couldn't even speak. I couldn't find the words.

"(Y/N)... It's me... Steve. We're here. Your family is here." I could see Steve searching her eyes, trying to find a spark of the woman we both knew. But his words fell flat to her. They did nothing.

"She won't react Captain. She's too far gone by now. The only thing she will do is exactly what she yearns for. And in turn, it will do exactly what I yearn for." Strucker took a couple of steps away from her, which made me breathe a little.

"Yeah? And what's that?" Sam spoke up, I could tell he was trying to bait Strucker away from her.

But Strucker didn't bite. He didn't budge. He just smiled. "I will break all of you." He then turned to (Y/N) and held out the scepter towards her. "Go ahead Angel. Take away the pain. It's okay. You have fulfilled your purpose."

I didn't understand it at first when he said the words, but when I saw her reach for the scepter without a word it clicked.

"(Y/N)!!!" I yelled and started to launch myself forward. But I hit a wall and fell back with force. An invisible wall, just like the one Tony had taken down outside. Steve helped me up to my feet and Tony and Sam came up next to us.

"(Y/N) put the scepter down hun..." I heard Tony plead.

She held the scepter in front of her, positioning the sharp end towards her body. "Doll please..." I find myself crying, sobbing, pleading. I start to pound the invisible wall hoping I can get through.

"(Y/N) don't do this! Please! We're right here!" Steve yelled as he started pounding the wall with me.

It must've happened in an instant, but it played out before me in slow motion. Like a cruel joke. She pulled the scepter back, and then drove it deep into belly. I swear I could feel it slice through my heart.

Almost instantly she began to glow and scream in agonizing pain. Falling to her knees the glow intensified as her wings sprang out on either side. It continued to get brighter and brighter as her screams grew in intensity. Beams of yellow light burst from her eyes. And then as if she couldn't get any brighter, she burst inside the cube she was in, a blinding light not letting us see in.

Steve pulled me back from the wall. All our eyes wide with fear and pain. Did we just lose her?

As the light began to dim, I noticed the invisible wall start to crumble and fade. My heart constricted in pain; I was about to turn away. I couldn't bear to see her lifeless body, or lack thereof. But then I heard Sam whisper, "look." I followed his wide eyes and was shocked at the sight.

"Angel?..."
