Steve's POV

I watched as Tony hugged (Y/N) in the distance, I felt torn. On one hand I understood where she was coming from, the thought of losing Natasha or her would devastate me. But the chance to get Bucky back, to get Sam back. To be able to see Sarah again... It was too inviting.

"He's scared." Natasha comments as we start getting into the car.

I nod. "He's not wrong. Neither is (Y/N)."

"Yeah, but I mean, what are we gonna do? We need him. What, are we gonna stop?" I can tell Scott is anxious, he won't let this go. In this moment I realize I can't either.

"No, I wanna do it right. We're gonna need a really big brain." My bride to be looks at me and smirks, I can tell she knows what I'm thinking.

Scott, confused points towards Tony. "Bigger than his?"

I chuckle and watch (Y/N) walk back towards the car. Deep down I hope she will accept and agree with my decision. As she takes a seat in the back of the car she looks at me through the rearview mirror. "So... Where are you really going?"

I can never get one past her. She knows me too well. "I think we need to go see Banner."

She nods slowly as if mulling it over. "I understand. I – I can't do this Steve. I can't get false hope. Maybe I should go home and you guys can continue on without me."

Natasha turns to face (Y/N), her hand outstretching towards her, to which (Y/N) reciprocates. "Are you sure? I don't want you to be alone right now..."

"I'm sure. If you need me, you know where to find me."

-.-.-.-

I stared at the notebook as I finished writing. A deep weight pulled down in my chest as I closed the notebook shut. The past few days blurred as I kept getting updates from Nat with the progress Bruce was making (which wasn't much). Although I couldn't do it, couldn't take part in their efforts, a part deep inside me had a small hope. A small waning light in the vast darkness I had lived in for the past five years.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by a knock on the door. I hadn't been expecting anyone, so I cautiously and consciously brought my powers forward as I walked down the stairs and towards the front door.

"It's me Tink. Open the door." Tony's voice calls out and suddenly I relax and let my powers recede.

Opening the door with a puzzled look I find Tony leaning against my door frame. "Tony? What are you doing here?"

He smirks as he pushes off the door frame and walks inside the house. "What? I can't just drop by?"

I turn after him, closing the door behind me. "Yes. But usually –"

"I figured it out." He cuts me off. His face serious and eyes searching. I froze in place, shocked by his words. My legs felt weak as the weight of his statement fell on me.

"Wha – But... You said – "

He grabbed me and led me to the nearest chair. "I know. But you know me. And I wanted to pretend I didn't figure it out. Drop it in the bottom of the lake. But Pep knows me better than that... Knows I can't sit here and not do something about it, not bring them back. Peter. Sarah. Bucky. All of them."

I felt like I couldn't breathe. The small waning light inside be burst bright like a fire, consuming all the dark corners of my mind, body, and soul. "Tony... I – "

"I'm not giving you false hopes Tink. We can do it. But I need you by my side. We can't do this without you."

I nod, tears that were accumulating in my ears falling at the movement. "Together."
