“I’m getting a book.” I sat up fast in my bed and squealed. “I HAVE A BOOK.” I pulled back the covers and jumped out of bed. I swung open my door and ran downstairs expecting a full ‘Hailey you're getting a book I’m so proud of you’ breakfast but instead; my parents were no where to be seen. “Mom? Dad?” No answer. “Thanks guys for making me such a delicious meal to wake up to.” I said no one. “I am so grateful to have such wonderful parents that support me.” I walked to the fridge and opened it up. “Really? There isn't even any food!” I groaned and shut the door. I went back upstairs and got my phone calling my mom.
“Oh hi sweetie.” She sad after the first ring.
“Oh hi sweetie? Really? You leave me alone the day after I get told I’m getting a book?”
“Didn’t I tell you? Your father and I went out to run some errands today. We’ll be back at around 5.”
“Ugh, what am I supposed to do all day?”
“Don’t be so dramatic Hailey. You’ll be fine. Now I have to go.” She hung up the phone making me groan again. I called Calum to complain about my parents but he didn’t answer.
“What the hell? This is my day!” I yelled. I flopped down on the bed. “I guess it’s just you and me today.” I said grabbing my laptop and opening it up to Netflix. After the first movie I watched I called Calum again and he still didn't pick up. I decided to have a shower but right when I stepped in my phone rang. “Cal?!” I ran out of my bathroom and grabbed my phone but was disappointed to see that it was Layla. “Hi.”
“Hey!” She said too happily. “What are you doing today?”
“Nothing. My family left me and I’m alone all day.”
“Get dressed because I’m coming to get you.”
“Ok. I’m just about to get in the shower though.”
“I’ll be there in 10 minutes.” I hung up the phone and had my shower then after I got dressed in a baggy ugly top and some ripped jean shorts not even bothering to put makeup on, I felt too betrayed to put anything on my face. I could hear her in my kitchen trying to find something to eat.
“You wont find anything to eat.”
“Yeah I noticed. Let’s do lunch.” She turned around and her smile dropped once she saw what I was wearing. “You’re wearing that?”
“Yeah. I don’t have anyone to dress up for. My parents left me, my boyfriend won’t talk to me, it’s all a shit day.”
“Well turn that frown upside down and let’s go eat because I am hungry and I don’t want to hear about you’re terrible day. It’s making me all moody.” I followed her out the door and to her car.
