You weren't just any First Order technician, you were one of the most creative ones. You came up with most of the blueprints for new technology, and built it on your own. You always listened to everyone's opinions, and had the ability to bring people together. Not to mention that unlike everyone else on Starkiller Base, you held no fear for the infamous Kylo Ren.
To you Kylo Ren was someone who self-sabotages himself, and you made your opinion on him known. Many people were shocked that you were even still alive because everyone knew how you felt about him. Even Kylo Ren himself.
Kylo didn't care though, there were so many people that hated him on the Base. You were just another one. When you have the ability to read anyone's mind with the flick of your thumb, you hear a lot of things that aren't pleasant. Your words were just another unpleasant means to an end. You were a great technician and you built half the Base single handedly, he couldn't kill you.
The two of you never thought you'd like one another, in any means, and no one on the Base thought so either. That was until the destruction of Starkiller Base.
Surprisingly enough, the day that the Resistance destroyed the Base had been one of your days off. You had decided to spend your day off away from the Base, considering you were constantly working. Your plan was to take the day to sight see the snowy forests of the Base, to really take in the nature rather than the technical. Your day had been going according to plan, until the Resistance arrived.
You had tried to get back to the Base, but with all the intruder alarms blaring it was impossible to. Everything was set to lock down during an intruder alert, doors only being able to open from the inside so more intruders couldn't enter. It was a tech you had built yourself that was now biting you in the butt.
You had assumed that these were going to be your last minutes alive, that was until you saw the glow of a red lightsaber. You knew that it was Kylo's, and though you didn't like him, you knew this was going to be your only way out. You ran toward where the red light had been shining and hid behind a tree. Kylo seemed to have been fighting with a Resistance fighter, she seemed to have the same amount of strength he had. It immediately confused you, you never thought that anyone would have the same strength as Kylo. You watched as the Resistance fighters lightsaber struck Kylo, and you acted on impulse. Impulsively you ran towards him while screaming. Everything went by in a flash for you but Kylo saw the whole thing. He watched as red wisps formed around your hands, you raised your arms in a pushing motion and the Resistance fighter went flying.
You grabbed him and helped him up, holding on to him and running toward the falling Base. That's when you two were able to meet up with General Hux and some Knights of Ren. You all were all able to escape and Kylo was able to get medical attention. You never thought anything would come from that event, you assumed that Kylo was too narcissistic to admit someone had to save him. Boy, were you wrong.
It had taken Kylo a month or so to fully recover, or to at least recover enough to risk another injury. Since it had been weeks, you didn't think anything would come from it. You just continued your work as head technician but this time on the Finalizer Base. When Kylo Ren stomped his way into your office one day, you were rather surprised.
"You saved me." He said, his voice was grumbled up by his mask. That's when you realized that you had seen him without his mask, but had forgotten what he looked like in the heat of the moment, or maybe that was just the force working.
"I am loyal to the First Order, and you are my commander."
"You used something to push the scavenger away, what was it?"
"I'm sorry?"
"When you pushed the scavenger away, what did you use?" The question had confused you because you hadn't realized you had pushed the Resistance fighter back. You assumed that the girl had just run off. The only thing you really remembered was helping Kylo up and towards the Base. The rest of that day just seemed like a blur.
"I hadn't realized I'd push whoever she was." Though Kylo was conflicted to fully trust you, he could sense that you weren't lying. He could tell you were being completely honest.
"I want to offer you my guidance," he extended his hand out to you, "what do you say?" Kylo Ren, the man you had hated for years, wanted to help you harness some powers he claimed you had. You didn't know how to feel. On one hand you felt completely honored, but on the other you didn't want to turn out like him. You only wanted to learn how to harness whatever you had, you didn't want to have to hurt people. Maybe be the person who could go undercover, versus the person who would be in the line of action. In your mind you didn't see where that could be a problem, so you took a leap of faith.
"Fine, but I don't want to turn out like you." You took his hand and squeezed it. Kylo could feel your internal battle, and he understood how you felt. He understood the battle between light and dark.
"I wouldn't think of using you in such a way." From that day on, the relationship between you and Kylo started to grow. But, that's a story for another time.
