Sixty-Two

I float off the ground, now fully aware and ready to fight. My voice reverberates through the field, loud and commanding. "I said. WAS IT WORTH IT?"

Thanos whips back to look at me, his expression now one of anger with a hint of curiosity. I extend my hands out to the side, letting energy accumulate in my hands like two bright suns.

He narrows his eyes at me as his breathing becomes erratic with anger. He lets out a yell, almost like a war cry as he lunges for me. I have hit a nerve. As he runs towards me, I let the energy in my hands go, hitting him straight on. He stumbles back a step, shaking his head to steady himself. As he steadies himself, I pull two more balls of energy in my hands. He starts his run towards me again and this time as I launch the power from my hands, he does too. The purple meeting yellow causing a large explosion, sending us both flying several dozen feet back.

Tony seizes the opportunity to kick at the titan, turning his boot into a clamp around his gauntlet hand and bracing it locked on the floor. He rams his hand, now a large object into the titan's face, cutting his cheek.

"All that for a drop of blood." Thanos smiles and then punches Tony, hard. He's relentless so I intervene. Coming up behind the titan I grab his forearms, using all my strength and pull back, keeping his hands locked and unable from throwing another punch Tony's way. But Thanos just snickers, and throws his head back, hitting my face with a force of a boulder. I can hear my nose break and feel the warm blood falling down my face. As I stumble back a step, he takes the opportunity to turn around and grab me by the neck, lifting me off the floor.

Pulling me close, he whispers into my face so that only I can hear him. "I will make it my mission. I will take everything from you, you annoying creature. You will have nothing left." Before I can even react, he blasts me straight in the abdomen with a bright purple beam. The pain is instantaneous as I feel myself launched into the air. I land hard, and my vision goes white. Then everything goes dark.

Tony's POV

I watch as Tink is blasted across, her body falling limp and unmoving. I stare at the madman in front of me, anger seeping through every bone in my body. I run to him, but he's too quick. He blasts me with his gauntlet and I can see the gap in my suit from the damage. I bring up a repulsor and fire at him, but he deflects it as if nothing. Rising to my feet, my suit tries to repair the damage, as I bring another repulsor up and fire. But the titan just keeps deflecting it, walking up to me slowly. Once in front of me he backhand's me and the incomplete nanite helmet flies clear off my face. As I try to block another blow from hitting me, he grabs my left hand above my head. Seeing nothing else available my right hand become a sword as I try to lunge it into the madman.

But he snaps it clean off.

And he drives it into me instead.

My body freezes up, pain engulfing every nerve ending.

There's no more fight left in me.

The madman walks me back and sits me down, petting me in the head as if I were a child. I can't move. I can't speak. Everything I love flashes in my mind. Pepper. Happy. Rhodey. Tink. Peter. Sarah. The Team.

"You have my respect, Stark. When I'm done, half of humanity will still be alive." I watch the man in front of me straighten and step back. This is it; this is how I go out. "I hope they remember you."

I watch him raise the gauntlet. I know this is the end. But before he can do anything a flash comes between us. (Y/N). Staggering on her feet, holding the Titan's hand, not allowing him to close his fist.

Her glow surrounds her like a fire, and although she looks badly beaten, I can feel her determination. "You will regret the day you hurt my family." Tink's voice comes out cold and deadly.

I gasp in pain and in surprise when the titan takes his other hand and wraps it around (Y/N)'s neck. "You are a fool if you think you can stop me." I can hear him tighten his grip, because (Y/N)'s breath practically stops. But her glow intensifies, it becomes blinding. I close my eyes when it becomes too much. I hear Thanos grunt, almost as if in pain and then I feel the light diminish, scared to open my eyes and see the sight before me. But I do so cautiously and sigh deeply when I see (Y/N) in front of me, on her knees. Alive.

"I will enjoy making you suffer." Thanos spoke to her as he stepped forward, his gauntlet fist now closing, all four stones glowing. I struggle against the pain to try and stand, to shield her. But everything stills when we hear Strange yell out, "Stop!"

Thanos turns to face Strange, as if waiting. "Spare their lives... and I will give you the stone."

"No tricks." Thanos says. Strange shakes his head and he turns the gauntlet to face him, as a warning.

I finally find my voice, pushing beyond the pain. "Don't...!"

But the magician ignores me. He plucks the Time Stone out of its hiding place in the stars. Opening his hand he allows the stone to float to Thanos. I watch in horror as he places the stone in the gauntlet. The energy pulse making the titan wince, yet making him that much more powerful.

"One to go." Thanos says when Quill pops out of nowhere sending a shot out to him. But the titan just ignores it and disappears into thin air before Quill even has a chance to reach him.

"Where is he?!" Quill yells, looking at me and Strange confused. I look forward at Tink and noticed she hasn't moved from her spot kneeling in front of me. I quickly take a second to stitch up my wound as much as I possibly can with my remaining nanites. I try to find my voice, but I am finding it hard to breathe.

"Did we just lose?" Quill asks, fear in his voice.

I look at Strange. Shaking my head, not understanding. "Why would you do that?

He looks at me solemnly. "We're in the Endgame now."
