"taylor, here's the problem-" scott began.
"i just want to read you what i wrote, and i'm gonna try to start... i just really want you to know that this is important to me. this is-"
"i totally agree with the issue, but let me explain to you-"
"have you heard her?" andrea asked.
"yes, i've read the entire thing, and the bottom line right now: i'm terrified. i'm the guy that went out and bought armoured cars." scott protested, staring at the blonde.
"i worry for her safety as much as anybody does. maybe more." andrea stated firmly.

"it really is a big deal to me." taylor murmured, her voice breaking, "she votes against fair pay for women, she votes against the reauthorisation of the violence against women act, which is just basically protecting us from domestic abuse and stalking. stalking! she votes... she thinks that if you're a gay couple or even if you look like a gay couple, you should be allowed to be kicked out of a restaurant. it's really basic human rights, and it's right and wrong at this point, and i can't see another commercial.. and see her disguising these policies behind the words 'tennessee christian values', those aren't tennessee christian values. i live in tennessee. i am a christian. that's not what we stand for."

"i need to do this. i need you to just.. dad, i need you to forgive me for doing it, cause i'm doing it." the swift informed. scott murmured something and stood up to kiss the blonde on the forehead. she knew he wanted the best for her, but she also knew she needed to say something.

A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, the couple were back home, ready to do something. tree had come round to monitor the impact while taylor was preparing. sam was sat next to taylor, listening to the conversation but occupying herself with jo.
"i'm not gonna lie, i'm a little nervous." tree murmured.
"you should be."

"okay, so.. i always have to bring up everything that could go sideways- everything that we need to expect." tree stated, "number one: the president could come after you."
"yeah fuck that, i don't care." taylor informed, looking at her publicist, "if i get bad press for saying, 'don't put a homophobic racist in office', then i get bad press for that. i really don't care."
"i would stand behind that 1000 times." tree agreed.
"me too." sam muttered.

"i think that it is so frilly and spineless of me to stand onstage and go 'happy pride month, you guys' and then not say this when someone's literally coming for their neck; especially when i'm very clearly married to a woman." the singer explained, pointing to sam, who was now listening more intensely.

andrea walked in with glasses of wine and handed them to the group. "all right, cheers."
"cheers to the resistance." taylor joked, making tree laugh. sam took a gulp of her glass and shifted closer to the blonde.
"it's gonna be okay." she assured, "we're in this together."
"oh, it's so scary." the blonde sighed, "this is the picture."
"one, two, three... go." andrea counted as taylor pressed share and immediately put her phone down.

she and tree began to pace nervously around the room, andrea and sam observing with a concerned stare. it was done. now all they had to do was wait.

OVER THE WEEKEND, her post seemed to get more and more attention: most of it good. by the time the next team meeting rolled around, most news channels had done at least one article on it.
"according to vote.org on monday, nationwide there have been 51,308 new registrations in the past 24 hours." taylor read with a grin.
"whoo!" andrea cheered, clapping loudly.

taylor beckoned her team into a group hug where they took a moment to process the news.
"congratulations." tree smiled.
"do you think it'll.. do you think.." the singer murmured, deep in thought.
"i think it could, definitely. it's your first race, so.." a member stated.
"i really hope it actually does something." taylor informed, a smile showing, "but you know what? donald trump likes my music 25% less."
