" "Tae," his mother called, her voice trembling as she saw her son sitting on the bench in the hospital garden. His eyes were red and swollen from crying, the anger that once burned within him now replaced by a deep, lingering pain.
"Tae, forget all of this, live for yourself, baby. Leave us behind... go with whoever loves you, someone who will take care of you. We were bad parents... always forcing you to do what we wanted," she said, her heart heavy with regret.
"Mom..." Taehyung’s voice was soft, yet firm. "You don’t have to tell me what to do anymore. All these years, I did everything you and dad wanted, but not anymore. I need time... time to figure things out."
His mother sighed, a mixture of sadness and relief. "Tae... I love you, but I can't just leave him. He's your father, and I can’t turn my back on him when he needs me."
Taehyung’s patience wore thin. "You still care about him? After everything?" He bit back his anger, his voice sharp.
"He's still your father," his mother cried, her tears falling freely now. "He might have done terrible things, but he loved you, Tae. He tried to protect you from a world you don’t know... don’t hate him, please."
Taehyung’s heart shattered. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but instead, he took a deep breath. "Then let’s take him with us. But I won’t leave you alone. We leave tomorrow morning. You deserve peace, Mom. Not this... this violence."
His mother nodded weakly, her face etched with exhaustion. "I will come with you. But Tae... I can’t help but worry. They’ll come after us."
Later that day, Taehyung went home, determined to uncover the truth behind his father’s secret life. He scoured every inch of the house, hoping to find something—anything—that could explain the twisted path his father had taken.
He found nothing, until he came across a small drawer, locked with a code. After several failed attempts, he entered his birth date, and the drawer clicked open.
Inside were old papers, packets of drugs, and a broken audio tape.
"Mom, it’s time," he said softly as he approached her, still processing the gravity of his discoveries.
"Are you sure, Tae?" she asked hesitantly. "This is dangerous. We can’t—"
"Don’t worry, Mom. We’ll be safe. I’ll protect you."
With his father still in a coma, Taehyung arranged for his transfer to a military hospital. His friend, Dr. Hoseok, ensured the safety of the transfer. Once his mother was settled in a small apartment near Jisoo’s, Taehyung promised to return quickly.
"Take care, Mom. I’m just a phone call away," he said, hugging her tightly.
"Don’t worry, Tae. I can protect myself," she replied, trying to reassure him.
As soon as he left, he drove straight to Jisoo’s apartment. His mind was still a storm of confusion and anger, but he knew he needed answers.
When Taehyung arrived at Jisoo’s, Jin was busy preparing breakfast. Taehyung couldn’t help but notice the calmness that came from the familiar space, but his thoughts were elsewhere.
"Jin, who is Kang?" he asked bluntly.
Jin raised an eyebrow, noticing the tension in Taehyung’s voice. "Let’s talk in your room. Jisoo is still sleeping."
Once inside, Taehyung’s voice dropped, and the weight of his father's secret life spilled out. "I just found out... my father was working under someone named Kang. Do you know anything about him?"
