After the fight, my dad had given pardon to the hunters that had fought alongside us. Most of them left to make their own lives outside of the hunting world. We never heard about them. Other hunters like Cody who were younger decided to stay around in adjacent towns to where the pack was located. They wanted to make up for what they had done and had said they would help if ever the occasion called for it.

And then there was Dominic. He had carried me all the way from the meadow to the pack houses. He remained outside the town with the other hunters while I was healing. The first time he came to visit, he told me about the promise he made to my father that they wouldn’t see him again once the fight was done. I obviously was not going to stand for that. I got my dad to agree to let Dominic stay at the house. In a separate room of course.

Some of the pack remained weary around him and I could understand why. He had been a hunter but once it got out that I wanted him here, they backed off. My dad and brother were not so easy. They kept a close eye on him whenever he was around me.

At first it was a little awkward between us. I mean, how do two people go from enemies to being in a romantic relationship. No book existed to guide us on this one so we made it up as we went. There were going to be issues that we would have to work on. Trust was going to have to be built. Bonds were going to have to be mended. But it is only a matter of time before we could both be fully committed to each other. He was my mate after all.

My thoughts were interrupted as a rustle came from my left. I took a quick sniff and figured out who was trying to sneak up on me. “Go ahead and come out Dominic,” I said with a smirk. When it stepped out from behind the trees I couldn’t help but giggle at his sheepish expression.

“I wasn’t trying to sneak up on you,” he said smiling as he sat beside me. I rolled my eyes as I turned to look at the creek running by us.

“Not with those loud feet stomping through the woods,” I teased. Dominic bumped me with his shoulder with a chuckle. This was how we had become. Conversation was easy but I had still not told him that he was my mate. He knew that I loved him as well but not that I wasn’t going to be leaving him anytime soon. My dad and brother knew which was why they were starting to be nicer to him, but I made them promise not to say anything. It was something I would have to do on my own.

We elapsed into a comfortable silence, both just enjoying each other’s company. Tell him, my wolf urged me. She had been pushing me to take our relationship to the next level. She wanted him to know that we were mates.
