After your first week at Freddy's you'd fallen into a rhythm: get up at 6AM, work til 8PM, come home and pass out, repeat. You got to take the car on Wednesdays and had Sundays and Mondays off. It was a nice change at first, actually having a routine, but by the end of the first month it was already getting monotonous. You felt like you couldn't really complain, though.

You had still made little progress on getting to know Dave better, who often ate lunch with you but flip-flopped between not knowing when to shut up and having to pull teeth to get him to say anything. It was confusing, too--he talked a lot about himself but not really about himself. It was always just the randomest shit. Nothing that personal. The most you ever got out of him were wild (probably fabricated) tales about his childhood and how his parents were sucked into some void of a country. As much as you hated to admit it, you really wanted to know more about him. Not the wild open fields of Texas or the inner workings of the pieces of shit in the back room--him. As a person.

Needless to say you were (sort of) pleased when you caught wind of the 'employee bonding convention' that was this weekend.

'Is that a real thing?' You thought, squinting at the flyer that Mr. Guy had given you. According to it, the convention started Friday night and you would go home late on Saturday. It actually seemed like a surprisingly nice affair; you were getting to stay in a fancy hotel in Las Vegas, all expenses paid. You were still a little unsure about the promise of 'fun bonding activities,' though.

"Are you going to go?" You asked Jeremy after closing up the pizzeria for the night. "It's tomorrow night."

"Hell yeah. It's mandatory, anyways, I kinda have to," he chuckled, rifling through his trash-filled locker for his keys.

"Mandatory, huh?" You mused. "Why is the company even doing this?"

Jeremy shrugged, offering a plain, "who knows?" before he finally held up his keys, jingling them in your face in satisfaction.

"That would've taken like, 5 seconds if you just cleaned out that damn thing," you said with a smirk, and he waved you off.

"I'll get around to it eventually."

"Uh-huh. Probably not in my lifetime."

The two of you exited the building, waving to Mr. Guy on the way out. Outside, the moon was already hung high in the sky, illuminating the pavement beneath your feet as it shyly peeked out from behind the clouds. Your head turned upwards as you walked so you could stargaze, and you sighed in content. However, something was still kind of nagging you.

"Hey, Jeremy?"

He gave a small "hm?" without looking away from the sky, admiring the stars as you were.

"...Do you think Dave's gonna go?"

"Did you miss when I said it was mandatory?"

"I know, but... he just doesn't seem like the type to care, y'know?"

"Yeah, I guess," he hummed as he unlocked his truck, swinging the door open. "Who knows if he will or not. I honestly hope he doesn't. Hey, you want a ride tonight?"

"Nah, I'm good... have a good night, Jeremy."

He hopped in his truck with a "you too, (y/n)!" and sped out of the parking lot, leaving you alone in the chill of an early fall night, still pondering your own question.

You had packed a bag for the trip when you got home last night, filling it with a few changes of clothes, toiletries, and other stuff you considered travel necessities. You also packed a deck of cards and some poker chips, something that you had brought with you on every vacation since you were little. You had fond memories of staying up late with your brother in your family's ancient, beat-up Shasta, trying to beat him at poker or a game of Blackjack at least once. You never did.
