"People are weird when it comes to their kids," he snorted. "You'll get used to it. Say, what have you been up to lately? I felt like we haven't had the chance to talk in a minute."
You hesitated. Should you tell him...? He was your friend, after all, but he wasn't exactly Dave's biggest fan. Would he lose his shit or something? You didn't want another lecture.
"Uh... well," you cleared your throat, "something did kinda... happen. Last night."
"Ooh, sounds juicy. What, what?" He scooted forward, a twinkle in his eyes.
"Don't get mad at me."
"Huh?" His nose scrunched up. "Why would I?"
"...I kissed Dave."
"WHAT?!"
"...multiple times."
He gawked at you, almost spilling his Dr. Pepper as he sat it down haphazardly. Lurching across the table, he grabbed your shoulders, eyes wide. "WHY?! What the hell happened?!"
You blinked as he shook you a little. "Now that I'm thinking about it... I don't really know. I just... did it. And then he did it back."
"And?!"
"And then we went drinking, he got drunk, and we went back to his place. Oh, then we made out again."
Jeremy released you to cover his ears, eyes screwing closed like he was having flashbacks despite not being there. "God, ew, don't tell me anymore!"
"You asked."
"Y'know when I told you to go make out with him the other day I was just joking, right?" He said almost pleadingly, sitting back down and grabbing your hands. "You didn't actually have to do that. You didn't have to do that to yourself!"
"I... liked it, actually."
"Oh, my God."
You laughed, yanking your hands away. "Jeremy, I don't know why you're acting so weirded out by this. You were already on to me, weren't you?"
"I mean, I guess, but I just didn't dream anything would actually happen!" He leaned back in his chair, an arm over his eyes. "So, what? Does that make you guys, like, a thing now?"
That was a good question, actually. He had confessed to you that he liked you more than he would a friend--was it too bold an assumption to assume the next step was dating? You shrugged a little. "I don't know. I still need to talk to him, I guess."
"Maybe you should reconsider, then."
"Jeremy--"
"Seriously, (y/n)," he whined, "if you hang around him too much you might get hookworm or something."
"Jeremy!" You barked a laugh, "I don't get why you hate him so much. He can be--"
"No, no--I don't want to hear it," he groaned dramatically before pointing at your untouched sandwich. "Hey, you gonna eat that?"
"Go crazy."

You caught Dave outside after work, smoking a cigarette as usual. Crossing your arms around yourself tightly, you shuffled over to him and leaned against the wall."How was yer day?" He mused, blowing some smoke in your face. You coughed and looked at him pointedly.
"Busy," you sighed, staring up at the pitch black sky. Shorter days came with the changing seasons, the sun setting long before you got off work. You said nothing else, and you could feel him squirm next to you uncomfortably.
"You've been actin' a little weird since this mornin'," he muttered, "I wish you'd just tell me if something's up."
"...it's nothing serious. Thinking about last night, I guess."
"Regrettin' it?" He laughed a little bitterly, taking a drag.
"No, no! It's not like that," you were quick to correct him, "just... wondering what it meant."
"I meant what I said, that's for sure," he said plainly, eyes flitting over to you. They seemed a little distant. "...Did you not?"
You flushed and shrunk under his gaze with a shake of your head. "No, I... I meant what I said, too."
His entire demeanor changed, face breaking out in a crooked grin as he pulled you into him. "You had me worried, girlie. Look, last night will mean whatever ya want it to."
"Well... what do you want it to?"
"Personally, I wouldn't mind havin' a little sweetheart," he cooed, wiggling his eyebrows as he leaned closer. You laughed and pushed his face away.
"Okay, okay," you giggled, "I wouldn't mind, either."
"So it's settled then?"
"Uh, I guess--"
He didn't let you finish, swooping in to give you a quick peck on the lips. Pulling back, his smile was accented by twinges of brilliant red on his cheeks.
"Great. How about goin' out this weekend?"
