"You can't leave!"

Start from the beginning

"I'm leaving," I said, biting my lip.

Coran looked shocked and honestly sad. "You're leaving? What in blazes for?"

"I feel like a sitting duck. I'm just getting in the way here," I told him.

"That is in no way true (Y/N)! You are a part of Team Voltron."

"Coran, I could be doing so much more! I need to find Matt!"

Coran sighed. "Alright. Take any pod you like. But don't believe anything bad you are telling yourself. You will be greatly missed," He smiled heavily.

I sighed and gave him a hug. "Thanks Coran."

With that permission gained, I headed off to hug some more people. This wasn't a big deal. Sure, they would miss me, but I would see them again. Right?

The hardest person to talk to would be Shiro though. He would give me that disapproving look that would make me feel awful. But he would tell me to go anyway. He gives good advice, but sometimes that hurts the most.

I decided to talk to him first so I could get it out of the way. I was starting to feel worse about not telling people goodbye, so I would at least tell him and a few others what my plans were. But I could not cave. I had things to do.

I finally found him outside of the Castle. Pidge was out there too, having some conversation with Shiro as her repurposed robot friend Rover floated beside her.

"Shiro? I need to talk to you," I said almost quietly.

He and Pidge both turned towards me, so I decided I would just bite the bullet.

"You too Pidge."

I walked them back inside the Castle, but in a more private place away from the crowds. I began to tell them my plans.

"(Y/N), no...!" Shiro said to me, putting a hand on my shoulder, more as a comfort than a demand.

"I'm not being useful here and you know that!" I told him.

"But you're my best friend! I'm not gonna lose you too!" Pidge said, almost yelling at me.

Apparently, some of the other Paladins had heard the commotion, and more of them started to come over. I could see Allura out of the corner of my eye. Then I heard Keith's voice behind me.

"You can't leave!"

I turned around to face him, my blood boiling. But when I saw him, his angry voice didn't match his sad face.

"You can't tell me what to do," I told him.

He sighed, and I could tell he was trying to keep his anger in. "If you leave, Team Voltron is broken. You're not the only one who's scared!"

Hunk piped up. "Yeah I'm terrified. I miss my family. I want to be with them. Is that—Is that, like, a thing that can happen?"

"You want to leave, too?" Allura said, almost angry.

"Of course I do. Look, Voltron is super-cool, don't get me wrong, but I never signed up for a lifetime in space fighting aliens."

I shouldn't have said anything. If I had just left, none of this would have happened. This is exactly why I need to leave.

"YOU'RE PUTTING YOURSELF OVER THE LIVES OF EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE GALAXY—!" Keith yelled at me, making me back up again.

Shiro grabbed Keith by the arm and pulled him away from me. "Keith! That's not how a team works. People have to want to be a part of it. They can't be forced," Shiro said sadly.
