"You can't leave!"

Start from the beginning

Keith seemed to realize again, and his eyes widened. He made eye contact with me, and I just glared back at him. What was he on about?

I sighed. "Look, I know you guys keep saying that I need to stay, but let's face it. If I left, you guys could run Voltron fine without me."

Silence was left there. There was nothing left to say.

"If you want to leave," Shiro told me, "we won't try to stop you. But, please, just think about what you're doing."

I don't know. I felt like I needed this. But where would I go? What was my plan? Would I ever see these guys again?

"I'm sorry," I whispered, knowing if I actually spoke I might cry.

After that, I ran away from the group, because I couldn't bear their disapproving looks anymore.

I had run off to the ship garage and had completely forgotten to say goodbye to Lance. Lance had no idea about the situation with me and was with Coran. Unbeknownst to us, Pidge's robot friend had been turned evil by the Galra hiding on Arus. The infiltrated Rover had floated through the Castle unsuspectedly while we had had our little fight, and had found Lance and Coran in the room where the Castle's power was held.

"Hey, Rover," Lance said cheerfully as the robot floated by him.

The little robot ignored him and headed straight for the Power Crystal. Lance stopped.

"Wait... Where's Pidge?"

Lance looked at the drone and saw that something wasn't right. It was going to explode!

He gasped. "Coran, look out!"

Lance launched himself at Coran so he could take the blow instead of him, and the Power Crystal exploded. The entire Castle lost power, and the ground shook.

Just as this happened, I had opened the bay door to leave. But just as the door opened completely, I felt the Castle shake, and I hit my head on the dash of the ship.

"Ow! What the..." I rubbed my head and looked up. All the garage lights were off, and there did not seem to be any power anywhere. I knew something wasn't right. I got out of the ship and grabbed my duffle. I ran to the Power Crystal in hopes that maybe with my garrison training, I could fix the power. But when I got to the room, it was filled with smoke, and Coran was standing up from the floor, coughing. I helped him up, quite concerned.

"What happened?!" I asked him.

Coran rubbed his head, but he seemed mostly unharmed. "Ugh... I'm not sure."

I stepped farther into the room and waved away some of the clearing smoke. I heard more people rush into the room behind me, but I saw something that was more of my concern. I saw Lance out on the ground.

"Lance!" I screamed as I ran to his side.

I threw my duffle on the ground and slid to the ground. He had cuts all over him, and his face was stained with soot. He was clearly in pain but was knocked out cold.

The other paladins had run in behind me, and Shiro saw me in the middle of the rubble.

"(Y/N)...? Lance!" Shiro yelled, running over to us.

I put my hand on Lance's chest, and I could tell he was breathing, but it was sporadic and strained.

"We have to get Lance to the infirmary!" Pidge told us.

"Without the Crystal, the Castle has no power," Allura said.

Shiro looked him over and I was trying not to think of the worst. "He doesn't look good," Shiro said, practically reading my mind.

Suddenly, the Arusian King came into the room, his face filled with worry. "Lion warriors, our village is under attack! We need help!"

"Let's get to the Lions!" Keith advised the others.

"You can't," Allura told him. "They're sealed in their hangars. There's no way to get them out. We're defenseless."

The Arusian King looked at us sadly and desperately. "Will you not help us?"

Keith sighed. "We'll help you. We just—"

Lance gave a groan in pain, reminding us about his situation. I grabbed his hand, trying to wipe some of the dirt off of it to keep myself occupied.

"This is bad," Hunk noted.

"We have to get a new Crystal to get the Castle working again," Coran inferred But, to get a new Crystal, we need a ship."

Then I realized that I had an idea. "The pod I was loading, we can use that! I left the bay door open," I told everyone.

"I can use the scanner in the pod to see if there's a Balmera nearby. Hunk, you come with me. I'll need someone big to help me carry the Crystal. And Pidge, I'll need your engineering expertise," Coran asked.

"A Balmera?" Hunk asked, confused.

"It's where the Crystals come from. I'll tell you about it on the way!"

Hunk, Pidge, and Coran left for the pod, while the other paladins decided their roles.

"I'll go see what's happening at the Arusian village," Keith decided.

Allura followed, "I'll go with you, Keith. I brought this on the poor Arusians."

"I'll tend to Lance and stand watch over the Castle perimeters," Shiro said. "(Y/N), why don't you watch the Castle from the inside?"

"Sure," I said numbly as Shiro picked up Lance and hurried off.

Allura and Keith left with the Arusian King, and I was left in the Castle. After everyone was gone, I quickly opened my duffle and put on my remaining paladin armor that I hadn't worn for the party. Putting my different weapons in their holsters, I found the knife that I had given Keith.

"Ugh. What is this doing here?" I asked myself, annoyed.

I put it in its rightful holster anyway, and mentally decided that I would put it back in Keith's room after we had defeated the Galra so that I could leave without having to worry about it again.

After I was suited up, I grabbed my duffle and ran to get a view of the outside. That was when I saw Shiro getting knocked out by the Galra, and he and Lance, who was still unconscious, were getting taken captive.

"Oh no!" I gasped.

I was all that was left in the Castle.
