"Hell no," the man turned away and started walking again.
I limped after him, struggling to keep up, "Come on, we make a great team. Between your fighting skills and my aim no one can get in our way. Plus I can hunt, gather food, and I don't mean to brag, but I make a mean campfire."
He side-eyed me and it may have been a trick of the lamplight, but I would have sworn I saw his lips switch into a ghost of a smile.
"Fine," he said, "But you have to keep up."
"No problem...um...what's your name?"
"It's...Lee. Yours?"
"Y/N,"
Lee just nodded in greeting as we left town, agreeing that we should put as much distance as we could between us and the hospital before morning.Lee wasn't the most lively of travel companions. He didn't like to talk about his family or his past. I asked where he was from, his answer being "Here and there."
So we traveled in silence mostly. I missed my friends terribly in the silence, the only other thing to busy my mind being my travel companion. I wish I was as wary of him as I should have been, but there was something about him that drew me in.
It appeared he did not feel the same—yet again. No ones POV:
Zuko immediately regretted agreeing to travel with Y/N. She was much too cheery for his liking—almost as bad as his uncle, who he mostly tolerated only because they were family. Besides that, he realized too late how poor of an idea it was to travel with someone while hiding his identity. It was constantly nerve-wracking and he had no idea what had gotten into him—he was usually smarter than this.
There was something about Y/N. Her big E/C eyes, her smile and smirk. What was he doing?!
All this confusion and anxiety meant that at one point or another, the tension would be too much for them.
It was three days into the journey when it all came out.
Y/N stood from the fire she had started and began to remove the bow from her shoulders, "I'll get hunting—"
Zuko reached into the bag he had been carrying, "Don't bother, I got something for us."
Y/N jumped back, repulsed as he drew out a dead chicken, "Where the hell did you get that?!"
"The farm back there,"
"Lee, you stole someone's chicken?!"
"So what? It's food. I'm sick of squirrels which is all you can apparently catch, Miss Expert-Hunter,"
Y/N crossed her arms over her chest, "We can't split anything bigger between the two of us. And that was someone else's food—or their pet!"
Zuko rolled his eyes, placing the chicken over the fire, "You are too soft, Y/N."
"It's better than being a heartless asshole! My word, you're the most infuriating travel companion ever!"
"I'm infuriating?! You never shut up about your friends—"
"At least I have friends," she snapped back and Zuko flinched like she had struck him.
"You don't know what you're talking about,"
"I don't know shit about you cause you refuse to tell me anything! I think you're just hiding the fact that you're alone,"
Zuko bit back a torrent of insults, and scowled at her instead, forcing her half of the chicken in her hands, "Say what you want. Here. You're welcome."Hey, thanks for reading if you've gotten this far!
