I was awoken by a pair of hands shaking me roughly. "Y/N! Wake up, dammit! We have to run!" Zukos voice was hissing.
"What's going on?" I groaned, forcing my eyes open and sitting up. I had barely taken in my surroundings when I was hauled to my feet and dragged through the trees.
"What's happening?!" I tried, "What about our stuff?!"
"Leave it! They found us!"
It was made clear who "they" were as two fireballs flew over our heads, igniting the trees. I glanced behind us to see a dozen Fire Nation soldiers, half on rhinos, crashing through the underbrush after us.
"Keep going!" Zuko cried, turning to face them. I paused for only a moment to watch as he waved his arms with a flourish, sweeping the fire from the trees and launched it back at them. Half the soldiers shook it off quickly though, charging through the smoke.
I raced on ahead of Zuko, until being halted in my tracks by another half dozen soldiers. I touched my chest where my bow should be, but remembered we had left our things when I found just cloth. The next second, Zuko collided into the back of me, walking backwards himself. "We're outnumbered," I informed him as if he didn't already see.
He drew the dual swords (so he had time to grab weapons, but I didn't?!), "So we fight, not run."
"Um...yeah, my thing was the bow and arrows. And you made me leave those so..."
"So you're useless?"
Hey! "Yep,"
He was still behind me, but I knew he was rolling his eyes, "Whatever, just stay out of my way."
Easier said than done. Fire was coming from all directions, Zuko was slashing and kicking, the rhinos were trampling everything. I had to say it was very attractive how well he was holding his own, at least that was what I thought between saving myself from being burned, decapitated, or crushed. Finally I was backed against a tree, where I dropped to the ground and pressed my head between my knees, just hoping to vanish from sight.
But to no avail. After a moment I felt a hand grab the back of my dress and hoist me into the air. I grappled for something to grab by only found the smooth skin of a rhino I was being pulled onto. I was seated in front of the rider and he pressed a dagger to my throat. The scene in front of me froze as my captor bellowed, "Surrender or she dies, traitor!"
I haven't yet seen such fury in Zukos eyes and it was almost as terrifying as the knife at my jugular. For one awful heartbeat, I thought he'd let me die, but he threw down both swords in the charred grass, making a dull thud, and put his hands behind his head.
