Peter POV
I was speeding around the city like a torpedo. Even if everything didn't quite go to plan, I'm immensely happy. That I am no longer alone, that there is someone like me.
Lex looked fabulous in this suit. The deep navy blue complemented her black sweatshirt. Purple and blue accents also played a key role. Probably James helped her create it, but the design had to belong to her. It perfectly reflected her style of being. So different from the rest. So unique.
I landed on the building, and Lex landed with me. We subconsciously raced each other, although it was me who managed to win.
"But the action," I chuckled, still being all emotional after our last skirmish.
The whole battle, this amazing rescue and my debut as Spider-Bolt were so surreal that I doubt James would believe me in my story. At the very top is the rescue of Lex, who just a few hours earlier didn't even want to hear about cooperating with me. Something must have awakened in her. That deeply hidden strength. It's good to have her on my side.
"That's not much to say," she replied, catching her breath.
I stood for a moment to organize my thoughts. All the time it didn't occur to me that this had really happened. I stared at Lex and still couldn't stop, she looked so beautiful and phenomenal. How did this happen?
"How... how is this even possible," I stammered, not believing my eyes.
The girl turned to face me. She started walking toward me with a confident step.
"Your speech motivated me. I found that I can't miss all this, that I have to contribute too," she announced, looking straight into my eyes.
There was that sparkle in them, that spark that infused her with confidence and fierceness.
"I'm really ... delighted," I said gazing at her like a holy image.
For here stood before me a heroine, amazing, extraordinary. Just like me. Once again I realized how much I cared about her. That I could give my life for her. If only everything could be so easy.
Lex approached me with a smile on her face. She tentatively reached out her hands, but I did not stop her. She embraced me tenderly and laid her head on my shoulder. My hands also rested on her back. This moment... could last forever, if it were possible. Her warmth, her support made my stress disappear for a moment. I could drift off into the unknown with her by my side. I wish I could, but we have to finish the mission.
"It's not over yet," she said more quietly.
She knew what was on my mind. Edge is out there somewhere and we have to take care of him before it's too late.
"We can do it," I whispered.
I wanted to show her that I believed in the cause and that we could win. Edge had his slaves, but we have each other. But before we head into the lion's mouth, I need to be sure of one thing.
"Lex, we may not come out of this mission unscathed. Before we head into the fire, I want to ask you one important question..." I began.
I released my grip and put my hands on her shoulders. I looked straight into her eyes. I immersed myself in their beauty again. But I couldn't drift away with my thoughts. I had to know.
"Do you care about me?" I asked gazing into her beautiful face.
The girl was quiet for a moment, then a blush appeared on her face. I didn't want to embarrass her or make her feel uncomfortable. However, I was already fed up with this constant uncertainty, these constant games. Our relationship had been so complicated. Up to this point, because now everything is clear. We have no secrets between us, we can trust each other implicitly. Hence, I finally dared to ask Lex if she had feelings for me. True, she kissed me, twice, but that might as well mean nothing. It could have been a simple game, but I don't think so.
Lex seemed insecure. She was never trusting, always preferring to go solo, hence her embarrassment. But if not now, then never again.
"And you on me?" she asked purely passively.
Her tone of voice made me think. I reflected on our moments together. The longer I was with her, the more attached I felt to her. It never ended well, however, I wanted a taste of life in this fairy tale. Is Lex worth all this? Of course it was.
I concluded that words would not be needed here. I wanted to settle this once and for all. I smiled, giving her my affectionate gaze. Lex was visibly a little afraid. She was always afraid of the new. I was also a little afraid. Usually my reactions with girls didn't end well, but maybe I just hadn't met the one yet. And she could be Lex.
My gaze until it screamed "yes," but I preferred to do it my way. I closed my eyes and moved closer to the girl. Our corners of our mouths met again, but this time it was different. This kiss started something new, as wonderful as the two spider heroes. I felt just this fulfillment, as if I had finally won the coveted prize. So many months of waiting, but we finally lived to see this beautiful moment.
We were both already sure. At least of this.
