Spiderman: Into the Voidverse

Lex POV

The police arrived with momentum. In an instant, a couple of officers and four from the special forces got through the door. They were prepared, weapons in their paws. They stomped in line and were ready for orders. Spidey ran to them as soon as he saw them. I decided to stay and not get involved. He knew better than I did. So far I had avoided the police.

"Why did you call us Spider-Man?" the officer asked.

Spider-Man, however, was as confident as ever. The complete opposite of Peter, who is so gamine. How can two characters live in it?

Peter POV

"Mr. Davis, how good that they sent you!" said I exulted.

Davis is the best police officer I've ever met. Relaxed, confident, kind and best of all, he's a fan of mine. His son adores me. Even though he's still a kid, he understands what responsibility is. I had a chance to have a word with him a few times. For a twelve-year-old, he's quite a flair. Even better than me," he said.

"Who else were they supposed to send if not me?" he piped up cheerfully.

"At least no one will think I called you in vain," I replied, a little worried that the police would dismiss the case.

"That remains to be seen spider" concluded Davis.

I led him to Lex. Edge was still lying unconscious. I don't know if calling the police was a good idea, but we can't sweep this case under the rug. The police must eventually find out what this is all about.

"Wait, there are two now? Who is the other one?" asked a confused Davis after seeing Lex.

I moved nimbly to the girl, who apparently did not know what to answer. I put my arms around her waist.

"This is my partner. She helped me with the Black Eagle case. Together we finally managed to finish it," I said sincerely, pulling her closer to me.

Davis is one of the few who try to understand me. Most police officers support Jameson because I always leave a mess behind. Davis stands apart from the rest. He thinks I do good for the city. For that I respect him.

However, this time he seemed to fade away. He merely grabbed his walkie-talkie.

"Guys, he made it. Get started," he threw to someone on the other side.

In an instant, the rest of his comrades took off and started examining everything, looking for something that could confirm Black Eagle's evil actions. One of the paramedics moved toward Edge and began examining him. Soon the whole building was full of uniformed officers. I thought the police were sitting quietly, and they were conducting their own investigation....

"Did you know?" I asked shocked. If only they could see my face now....

"Since that fire case, we started to take an interest in Black Eagle, or rather, me and a few of my colleagues, because the rest didn't want to believe me. Thanks to you, I made a hundred," he confessed cheerfully.

"I'm glad I could help," I added, still slightly shocked.

Davis waved his hand to the paramedics who were carrying a stretcher for Edge.

"You've helped us a lot Spider, but now you have to go down. We can handle the rest," he said.

Do they want to bail us out? They always do. When I manage to do something great, the police come and tell me to go. I've done the job for them, and they don't even want me to watch my goal come true.

However, I didn't want to piss them off, so I grabbed Lex's hand and we headed for the exit.

"If you need any evidence, I'm here to help..." I said, feeling a little useless.

They had a ton of detectives, investigators, and I only had Lex and James. And so it was I managed to get Edge, they just finish our job.

"We have evidence in abundance.... But one thing I'm curious about. What is the name of your friend? I'll need it for a report," he called out, as we were already almost at the exit. There was a slight hint of excitement in him.

I looked at Lex.

"Void Spider!" she replied loudly.

He fits right in. She is like a shadow. At least she was, now she's leaning out more.

"Let's go," I said, grabbing the door handle.

The police will take care of the rest. I hope Black Eagle gets his due. No more suffering. No more conspiracies, no more lies, no more experiments. Today is the day their long cherished kingdom fell.

We left the building and both breathed a sigh of relief. At last, it's over. After so many months of struggle. I've had many difficult cases, but this one was the biggest of them all. Even the Kingpin was not so hard to unmask.

I felt that I was still holding Lex's hand. But this time she did not let me go. She even gripped tighter. Then we linked two fingers together. I looked at her, she looked at me. We were so close, I hugged her close. Now that all this is over, we will finally be able to be together.

Lex POV

This year my birthday was one of the best. Despite the fact that I wasn't in my hometown, my family came to see me! Aunt Kate cooked something for the first time in a few years. My parents met Peter, who got so chipper that I didn't recognize him. Later we flew around the city and collected candy dressed as ourselves, because why not!

Peter gave me a gift of spider gadgets, which I loved at first sight. He matched them to my fighting style, he tried his best in the world. In front of my parents, he gave me my favorite sweets, so that it wouldn't be that he didn't prepare anything. We ended the day with a shared pizza, at our favorite building.

I can't fathom how it all changed. I started going with Spider-Man, although we don't flaunt it much. The media is buzzing all the way about the Black Eagle affair, and only the news about the new female spider is louder. Of course a lot of people ship us, though we pretend we are just friends. We get more flack at school, so we don't have to pretend. Peter is so cute when he's not wearing a suit. Even though they are completely two different people, I love them just the same. Although he still jokes about how he annoyed me in the beginning. Now I can't imagine life without him, and although it sounds too romantic, he is the cure for my sorrows. It is impossible to get bored with this man.

I'm still trying to solve the mystery of Eva and the death of my grandfather, because something I feel is still an unfinished topic. I no longer wear it as often as I used to, but sometimes it can be useful. I taught Peter how to use it. Guy sweeps as Spider-Bolt.

New York is not a perfect city. It has many flaws, but it has become my job to heal this city. I felt a bond with it. I felt responsible for it. Just as Peter said. With great power comes great responsibility.
