I woke up to Naruto getting ready. "What's going on?" I asked, rubbing my left eye while yawning. It was around 5 a.m.—way too early to be awake, in my opinion.

"Hurry up! We've got to take the test for Kakashi-sensei, remember?" Naruto said softly, noticing I was still half-asleep. He started putting on his sweater while speaking.

"Oh, well, go ahead. I'll catch up, okay?" I yawned again, slowly getting up and heading to the bathroom.

"Okay, but don't take too long," he said before leaving for the meeting spot.

I poked my head out to make sure he was gone, then promptly went back to sleep. Like I was really going to meet up with them that early.

After another hour of sleep, I finally got up and started getting ready. I cooked breakfast for myself and packed some cookies for Naruto and Sasuke since they'd probably be hungry. I even grabbed some for Sakura—I figured I should try to at least befriend her.

Once I got to the meeting spot, Sakura immediately started yelling at me for being late. Yeah, scratch that thought.

I sighed and handed her some cookies.

"We can't eat anything, remember? Kakashi-sensei told us," she said, crossing her arms.

"I know, but come on. You guys are going to be too hungry to fight properly. Isn't it basic knowledge to eat before a mission to have enough energy?" I said as I handed cookies to Naruto and Sasuke.

After that, I lay down and fell asleep again while waiting for Kakashi-sensei.

Kakashi's POV
I strolled toward the meeting place, glancing at the time. I guess I really took my time. Oops.

When I arrived, Naruto and Sakura immediately started yelling at me. While they ranted, I noticed Y/N waking up, probably due to all the noise.

"Sorry, got lost on the path of life," I said casually before explaining the test.

Before I could even say "go," Naruto came at me.

"Well, I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I haven't said go yet," I said, letting him go and giving them the signal to begin.

They scattered to hide—except for Naruto, who charged straight at me. I sighed. He hadn't changed. Always so impatient.

I knew how this would all turn out, so I went off to find a peaceful place to read. Once I found it, I opened my book and started reading. These stories always had such fascinating tropes—sensei x student, enemy x ninja, ninja x clan leader. It was amusing how some things stayed the same no matter the world.

After a few minutes, Kakashi appeared, his presence quiet but noticeable as he approached.

"What are you doing?" he asked, his tone calm but curious as he stopped beside me. He leaned slightly, glancing over my shoulder at the book.

"Reading," I responded softly, unwilling to break my focus since the story had just hit a plot twist.

"How come you're not trying to get the bells?" he asked, his voice quieter now, as though he didn't want to disturb me.

"Because to get them, I'd have to work with my team, and they don't want to. At least, not for different reasons," I replied, flipping the page.

"And why's that?" he asked, gently holding the edge of the page I was about to turn.

I paused to let him finish reading. "Because, in their eyes, they have to do things alone," I said, meeting his gaze for a moment before turning back to the book.
