**Later that day, I woke up in the infirmary room.** I stirred, rubbing my eyes and head. I looked at the ceiling and sighed. *One arc down,* I thought to myself.
There were footsteps outside the room—probably from nurses and patients. I slowly sat up. My body was sore, but it didn't seem like I had any major injuries. I looked to my side; a curtain was drawn, meaning I was probably sharing a room with another patient.
I leaned back in my bed, bored out of my mind. Reaching for my little pouch on the nightstand, I took out a small journal. It was where I recorded arcs that had passed and wrote down any differences I noticed.
I heard shuffling from the other side of the curtain—probably the other patient waking up. A sigh followed, and their shadow shifted as they looked around before flopping back on the bed, probably turning to the side to go back to sleep. I glanced at the silhouette for a moment before returning to my journal, a small smile on my lips.
But slowly, that smile faded as the constant shifting and rustling of sheets began to annoy me. I sighed, clearly distracted. After another loud sigh came from the other side, I finally closed my journal.
"Hey, you good? You keep moving around," I asked, slightly annoyed.
"Yeah, I'm fine," the other person replied, voice casual as they leaned back into their pillow.
"If that's so, can you *not* move every five seconds?" I asked, side-eyeing the curtain.
They let out a soft chuckle. "Why? Is it bothering you?"
"No," I said plainly.
They shifted again—louder this time.
I groaned. "Okay, come *on*. You're definitely doing it on purpose now. Don't make me come over there."
Their voice carried a hint of amusement. "Then come on over."
I narrowed my eyes and slowly got out of bed. Pulling the curtain aside, I came face to face with
**Kakashi**, who was lounging against his pillow, a teasing smirk on his face and his arms crossed.
I stared at him, half-annoyed, half-amused. "You *knew* it was me?" I asked, already guessing the answer.
He nodded, eyes creasing with a smile. "Saw you when Tsunade brought you in."
I let out a tired sigh. "Of course you did."
He looked me over briefly, as if checking for injuries. "I told you to be careful. Not to waste your chakra carelessly.""You sound like my dad," I muttered, crossing my arms."I *am* older than you," he replied smugly.
"Barely."
He patted the empty space beside him on the bed. "Come on. Sit."
I stared at him for a moment, then sat down with a reluctant sigh, the irritation already fading. "You're lucky I'm too tired to fight you on this."
"Lucky? Nah," he said, his tone softening. "I'm just glad you're okay."
I blinked, a little taken aback by the sincerity in his voice, but smiled nonetheless. "Same to you."
For a moment, the room was quiet—comfortably so.
**Later that day**, Jiraiya dropped by again to catch up on Naruto's progress, the Nine-Tails situation, and the status of Team 7's newest members. While we waited for the others to arrive, I moved back to my bed. I made small talk with Jiraiya, occasionally sneaking glances at Kakashi, who was seated across the room, engrossed in the book Jiraiya had brought him.
I wondered how much he had changed—or if he had changed at all. I watched the way his hand held the page, carefully, never enough to crease it. His mouth would twitch subtly whenever he read something interesting. His eyes scanned the page a second time, that familiar glint in them—like he was imagining the scene playing out.
His thumb slipped slightly off the corner, clearly too lost in thought.
*The way—*
"You're staring," he said suddenly, breaking the silence.
I snapped out of it. "Huh?"
He gave me a gentle smile. "I said you're staring."
Jiraiya, who had been watching the whole time, chuckled lowly. "Looks like someone's a little distracted."
Before I could reply, a firm knock on the door interrupted us.
"Kakashi, Y/N, may we enter?" Tsunade's voice called through the door.
Kakashi straightened up, setting his book aside. "Yes, come in."
The door opened, revealing Tsunade, followed by Shizune and Yamato.Kakashi's visible eye widened slightly. "So this is the Yamato you've been talking about," he said, recognition flashing in his expression.Yamato stepped forward. "Long time no see. I'll be acting as the substitute captain for Team 7 while you recover."I pushed myself off the bed and moved to the chair beside Kakashi's bed, eager to be closer to the conversation.Tsunade frowned, folding her arms. "Y/N, I told you to stay in bed. You're in the hospital for a reason."I offered her a sheepish grin. "But I'm practically healed. The Nine-Tails is constantly working to speed up my recovery. Besides, I don't want to miss anything important."Yamato turned to me. "You must be Y/N, right? The other member of Team 7?"I nodded, reaching out to shake his hand. "Yeah, that's me. Sorry you have to deal with Naruto and Sakura for the next few days. They're good—just a bit... chaotic."He smiled back. "It's all right, I can handle them."Tsunade's tone shifted to more serious. "Now for the real reason I brought him here. Since he'll be leading your squad, Kakashi, I want him to understand what he's dealing with."Jiraiya nodded. "What we're about to tell you is top secret. Only the people in this room know. And it's the main reason Yamato was chosen.""Is this about Naruto, sir?" Yamato asked. Kakashi and I both nodded."You know that Naruto and Y/N both have the Nine-Tails sealed inside them," Kakashi said, and Yamato gave me a curious look.I looked away, slightly distracted by the view outside, knowing the topic was sensitive."There are times when the Nine-Tails' chakra leaks out, taking on a fox spirit form. We call it the Nine-Tails Cloak," Jiraiya explained solemnly.Yamato's eyes widened. "How often has this happened?""Recently, during our last mission," Kakashi said. "Naruto had two tails before I placed a seal Master Jiraiya gave me.""It happens when they're overwhelmed with emotion. We were lucky I intervened when I did.""If it continues, the number of tails will increase," Jiraiya said gravely."How many have you seen?" Kakashi asked him.I sighed. Jiraiya and I exchanged a knowing look."In my life, I've only encountered death twice," Jiraiya said. "The first was when Tsunade caught me peeping at a hot spring."Tsunade growled in the background."The second was when Naruto transformed into the Five-Tails during training," Jiraiya said, lifting his shirt to reveal the large scar. "It nearly killed me. He blacked out completely, and the Nine-Tails took over. We barely managed to seal it back.""I helped heal him," I added, tapping the diamond seal on my forehead."But Naruto suffered severe burns. When we asked him about it, he didn't remember anything—it's like he blacks out completely," I said, rubbing my forehead."I see... and what about you?" Yamato asked me. "How many tails have *you* conquered?"I leaned back in the chair. "None. I haven't experienced enough anger or hatred for the cloak to appear.""But that's dangerous," Tsunade said. "If you're suppressing all of that emotion, and it *does* come out... you could awaken all nine tails at once."I nodded, feeling the weight of her words. "I know. I wish I could say it won't happen, but... I'm not sure myself."There was a pause, then I looked Yamato in the eye. "Just be ready. Naruto will summon his cloak twice during the next few missions. You'll need to contain the first and let the second happen. It's crucial. If it happens more than that—let me or the others know immediately. It means the timeline is changing, and that could ruin everything."They all nodded solemnly.
